They have intertwined history for sure. Of course eventually the companies merged and before the closure it was known as Imperial-Schrade.

This document has a good timeline with pictures, and there are many threads in the archive on this topic. I might make a comment, that while Imperial made a lot of great knives, many of them are not near the quality of Schrade marked knives, especially when it comes to handle materials. Like Schrades, though, there are a lot of exceptions.
