I haven't seen one like this before and am looking for any and all information you can help me with. Hopefully someone can help date it too.

The blades seem to be really good thick steel, the tops of the blades remind me of how some butcher knives look, or it may be similar to a file type steel?? The more I look at this knife the more I like it, it's very solid, tight, good walk and talk, etc.

Thanks for any info. you can provide.

I have a muskrat, and a Barlow like that with the faux hammer finished blades.
I may have a stockman as well.
Here are a couple pics. Note that the cover is coming off the muskrat.

I they are from the early 1970s. I have seen copies of a sales sheet from 1973 with those listed in several patterns;
3 fixed blades, large and small jacks & stockmans, and also a fish knife and perhaps other patterns as well.

I don't think they lasted too long. They actually have pretty good carbon steel in the blades. They are built with shell handled construction. The patent numbers on your knife likely refer to the shell handle patents.

Thank you....it does seem like they have some good steel, have yours performed well...good edge retention, easy to sharpen, etc. Thanks again.

I'm having a great time building a little collection of Imperial, Frontier, Colonial, old Schrade, etc. knives. I guess I need to add these to the list. Cool old knives.

thx - cpr

Hey guys,

Those are part of Imperial's Hammer Brand line (recognize that Arm and Hammer logo on the shield?), came out around 1972-73. You definitely don't see many of them around. Here's a shot of an old sales sheet with the different models:

In 1974-75 they also came out with a commemorative set that celebrated the birthday of the U.S. Armed Forces. There were three stockman knives (the Explorer model above) that contained those same blades. Here's one for the Marines:
