Importance of a good clip

Not if it falls out when you bend over or sit down.

My traditionals don't fall out when sitting or bending over, neither do my keys. Maybe somebody is an Astronaught and losing their knives while under weightlessness...

Did you say $925 !?!? My wife would shoot me. I would even load the gun for her.

Things fall out of pockets, especially if you have looser pants like cargos or something. Hence why couches are great at collecting change and other treasures. I'm not sure why things falling out of pockets i such a shocking scenario. I've had non-clipping knives slide into my couch, between my car seats, etc. Luckily never when out and about, and never with a clipped-on knife.

Total bummer. One of those gut-wrenching moments when you lose something valuable—which often entails things of either monetary or sentimental value—or both. Hope it turns up!

I feel for ya. I'd still like to know what kind of knife it was, if only to be aware. It's funny, you read about some knives having "pocket shredding clips" (my Striders come to mind) and people trying to bend them out a bit. For $925? Maybe a good leather pouch is in order if you ever go that expensive again.

Either way, sorry to hear of your loss. Fingers crossed that fate smiles on you in some way.

Or maybe they have a little more paunch than you have and things tend to ride up when they sit down.

I HATE pocket clips. The first thing I do when I get a folder is take it off. If a knife isn't comfortable when I carry it deep in my pocket, I choose another knife.

I'm sorry to hear that this happened to corwise . . . lesson learned notwithstanding. $925.00 is just TOO much money to have fall out of your pocket.

I hope some kid isn't throwing that knife at trees or using it as a screwdriver.

All I know is when I have a knife, clipped or not, in my pocket I am aware of its presence/non presence at all times. I would be especially aware if it was a $925.00 knife. Just like if I had that much cash in my pocket. It is tragic that it happened but I still am at a loss how a clip can behave as stated. Maybe it had a lanyard also and the combination of clip condition and the lanyard made it easier to be lifted. Was it stolen perhaps?

I speak from experience, rp. I've got a wee-bit of paunch myself, and I've had clipped knives creep up my pocket when I sit down. That's why I made the comment I made. And that along with not wanting to appear "armed" in public are the reasons I won't use pocket clips. That's not to say that there aren't valid reasons for carrying knives clipped to a pocket. But none of those reasons apply to me or to my lifestyle.

Agreed. And while I appreciate knives described as 'so light, thing, small, etc that I forget it is there' I would never carry a knife that would actually have a chance at me forgetting it. All my expensive knives as bigger ones so they go back pocket so I know they are there constantly

Don't worry, I agree with you 100%.

For all those wondering how this could happen, I do wear loose cargo pants most of the time, pockets are loose. I'm 90% sure it fell out while I was sitting in a couch at a little coffee bar our BX has. Just slouching back, it slid out. The clip held it from sliding into my pocket (which would have been fine), but once I sat down it wasn't tight enough to stop it from sliding out. I checked that couch 20 minutes later and it wasn't there, basically tore the thing apart, but it was already gone.

For those of you who say you know you have your knife every second, maybe when I used to have my ZT300 or some other massive knife. I prefer smaller ones that don't bulk up. And as stated, I wear loose clothes. *shrug*

I'll fully admit that I noticed the loose clip and shouldn't have worn it that day, wasn't looking for validation or anything, just a little bitching and a warning. Today I once again hit the lost and found at the BX, called the church, and even called the base cops to see if anyone had turned it into them. No luck, so I called the insurance, see what comes out of that. Life happens. It sucks, pretty much most of my knife budget for the year, but the kids won't starve so I'll find something new next year.

I don't think it's unreasonable at all to mention the clip failure to the maker. Expecting a replacement is different, but it certainty doesn't sound like the op expects that.

I wouldn't mention the makers name, at least not until you talk with him. I understand people wanting to know who it is, if I'm honest I'm very curious too, I just don't think it's wise for now.

Just my opinion.

Btw, if it makes you feel better I lost an entire COLLECTION after a move. It was so devistating that I stopped coming here for a couple of years.

Again, good luck man.

Update: For those of you who are curious, renters insurance DOES NOT cover accidental loss. Has to be theft. Oh well.
