IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Change in Command for 1SKS and BladeForums.com

There are probably very good reasons for not charging a fee for this site. I'd pay, but many might not, and I don't like to be a member of any exclusive club that would have me as a member...

I do remember in the past being asked to support http://www.1stopknifeshop.com to help support this site, and I like that idea. Offering products that can directly benefit bf.c seems a good way to offset costs, while not taking donations which Spark and Mike have seemed hesitant to do in the past.

Maybe it's "Buy a Victorinox for a friend month" this month, and "Buy a Camillus for a Boyscout Month" next month. All for profit of course!!!

That's not to say that trolls and idiots will not have $10.00 to spare, but, will they take the time to go somewhere and get a Money Order, address an envelope and stamp it, to send it off?

As of my visit now, we have 10,752 Members and I cannot help but think that if we had a 25% reduction in Membership in one month due to a yearly subscription fee of simply $10.00, that 25% would probably be the dregs. And that would be a good thing.

Hi Don

please recognize that from outside the US a money order will be difficult or expensive, from Germany (for example) 15$ fee for a 10$ order.
I would happily pay this 25$ for a lifetime (ok - or 10Y) membership here but do i belong to dregs not wanting to pay about 2/3 of this for a fee ??
Maybe you will lose *more* than 25% of the members, limiting the forums to the US.

It is all well and good to ask members of BFC to support 1st Stop Knife. When I want to buy more production knives, 1st Stop is the first place I'd check out, and I would buy from them to help support BFC even if their prices were a little higher than else where! But, how do I compensate BFC for the money I've saved by buying, selling or trading on the "For sale/trade" forum? How do I compansate BFC for the connection to the custom knife makers I have been exposed to? How do the custom makers show their gratitude to BFC for their exposure???

I know that "kicking" in some dough may not be an idea that everyone is happy with, and that is just fine with me. For the regular customers of 1st Stop Knife, it may not even be necessary; but I am sure I am not alone when I say that I am willing to help defray the costs of BFC (and the NEW BFC!) by paying a voluntary membership fee.

In the past (after the auction fiasco) we were led to believe that software limitations would not allow the distinction of "supporting members" from the general public. I would hope that you would at least consider this option in the new software that you plan to get.... It would leave you some leeway if you ever change your mind!

If you are in need, it never hurts to ask for help...

Unfortunately there is never a 'free lunch'. The Photopoint and PayPal are two good examples.

If it costed $10 or $20, that is one less unhealthy fried clam plate I would eat. I could use to lose some weight......LOL. Look at what we spend on KNIVES!!!

Does that mean if we pay we get to BITCH more about the services?

Just kidding

Congratulations to you two.

Thanks for a superb site that changed the way we talk and think about knives.

I too would be willing pay a yearly fee.

Hello all. I am THE 1SKS / Bladeforums employee. Just wanted to say an official goodbye to Mike, and post an official protest of Sparks idea of a employee uniform, besides I could never grace a tutu like Spark. Btw, take notice of the number of posts for Mike, Spark, and myself and guess who is doing the work :-)

Hopefully the giant plastic shell that looks like a MT Halo will look better on you then the tu-tu oops..........maybe I shouldn't be mentioning it.

I am sure that whatever changes occur, it will be for the betterment of the forums as a whole. C4 brought up an idea that myself and others have floated around before, that of offering sustaining memberships. I hope the new software will allow this to be a viable consideration. We can voluntarily pump up the kitty and still keep the service free for those not wishing to make a financial contribution. These forums have provided me with hundreds of hours of pleasure and many good friends. It would be an honor to help support them as a sustaining member.
