Is it because D2 eats too much "Tool Steel" when manufacturing?

Like cutting diamond with diamond, somewhere on the line you are gonna loose diamond right?

It could be due to the well running dry. When Jennifer gave reasons for selecting D-2 for the hunting line of Rats, she said they bought the bar stock from Busse Combat. The well may have run dry. Or...;In light of the current energy costs, the tempering treatment they are using may have become too cost prohibitive.
