Looks like I'm in the market for another pocket folder.
I have yet to own a spyder. :foot:
And we all know first impressions are everything.

I am conducting my own little study of low-buck knives of many brands. I know most of the knife Co.s have a high-end market but I want to know what's at the bottom in order to see if that quality is carried throughout the line.

Long story short.... Tell me what you think best represents Spyderco's entry level market. By that I mean sub $50-60, non-serrated (my choice), small-moderate sized pocket folder.
Thanks for the ideas.

Well, you got to try the Delica/Endura 4 then.;)

Terrific knives for about $45 to $55:thumbup:

Without any imput thats what I was thinking as well.
I think either of thoes would be a great comparison.
Right now I am thinking that the Delica might be my best bet just based on the size I want.
Thanks for any imput.

D' Allara

Ball lock, VG10, grippy handle, great blade shape, about $50

If you are looking at entry level, the entire Byrd line is pretty much unbeatable, with costs of half what you stipulated (or less) and first rate quality.

For the actual Spyderco branded knives, many Wal-Marts are carrying a Native with S30V blade steel for $39.99. That is tough to beat. The VG-10 Delica 4 is an excellent knife in that general price range as well.

I was looking at a Byrd in as well for an additional comparison.
Is the byrd line actually made by spyderco or is it a contraced knife? Also where is the steel made? I thought I read that it was 440?
Thanks again

contracted, China, 8cr13Mov steel

buy a real spydie!

thats what I thought
ok well let me ask this general question.
What is the lowest priced "real" spyderco knife in their catalog?
I'd like to have something even cheaper to compare it to. Ladybug?
Thanks

I believe the Jester and Ladybug have the lowest MSRP, but the Jester has been discontinued for 2007, and the Ladybug is getting a steel upgrade to VG-10 from its current AUS 6.

As far as contracted/in house goes, most of the Spyderco line is made by various contractors in Seki, Japan. If you want only the made in U.S.A. Spydies, the Golden made Native is as low as it goes.
