Improvements for the Mnandi?

I like the Mnandi very much because it is such a quality knife, another from CRKs. I like it's size, shape, and weight! Is there anyway it could possibly be better?

Possible changes:
1. A thumbstud instead of the current nail nick (so that it can be flickable)
The above might require a cut out on the scale
2. The thumbstud with a gem
3. And/or a Gem set on the scale
4. FFG?

I think I heard ...If you want damascus steel it take 11 months to get it.

Wouldn't it be nice if CRKs had more than one supplier so we wouldn't have to wait so long. Maybe a Damasteel supplier?

Would any of you like to see something different on the Mnandi?

If so please post your thoughts?

Thanks.

Nope, I like the Mnandi just the way it is. Its not meant to have a thumbstud like the sebenza, its a different style of knife completely and a great one in its own right. I used to have 5 of em, now I am down to two sadly. CRK sellers/traders remorse sucks....:(. Luckly though, there lots out there and I can get more...:D.................My remaining mnandi are a s30v jigged madagascar rosewood and a cocobolo SS basketweave damascus. Both are keepers. I have used the damascus mnandi for things suited for an umnumzaan and there is not even the slights sign of use. Its a great alternative for those not wanting a small sebenza and wanting a sleaker fancier pocket folder... Enjoy the Mnandi for what it is, a Gentlemans Knife, or an "emergency steak knife" as per Chris himself.

I agree with nyemaker. It's a perfect classy little pocket knife.

IMO the thumbstud would be a big minus on the Mnandi. It would catch on things and shred fabric. I sometimes with the nail nick was easier to use, but I'd rather deal with that issue than add a stud. YMMV, obvviously.

The Mnandi cannot be improved. Take it or leave it.

If you want gems in your thumbstuds go buy a William Henry... ;)

Kind regards,

Jos

I'd leave the knife as is. I'd love to see a plain version without inlays, but nothing to change regarding the actual knife for me.

I like the Mnandi just the way it is but IMO a plain Ti Mnandi with no inlay would be just the
ticket. I wouldn't mind seeing a slipjoint or friction folder in that pattern from CRK either.

Other than minor evolutionary changes like newer steels and a new scale material once in a while to keep it fresh don't mess with a good thing.

Agree, a thumbstud would ruin the clean lines in an attempt to make it something it isn't supposed to be. I imagine there will be a shift to S35VN, but with no change to the form.

It was not designed to be flickable and I like that it is not. To many knives that are flickable IMO, its a classic gentleman's folder like a Kerry Hampton slipjoint

2. The thumbstud with a gem

No thanks.

3. And/or a Gem set on the scale
Dont see place for a gem in the wood. Might look good, but I dont know.

Not going to happen. Chris made a few FFG Sebenzas in the past and he was not happy with it. He likes semi hollow ground and I appreciate that since it is still one of my favourite grinds out there despite the demand for a FFG.

I also love the Mnandi as it is, but wouldn't mind seeing a carbon Fiber or black Micarta inlay with a Stonewashed blade...

I can think of no improvements of value to the Mnandi . . . except, perhaps, an adamantium blade.

3. And/or a Gem set on the scale

My favorite Chris Reeve knife is the Mnandi. Even without a stud, I find that mine is easier to open than my small Sebenza. I wouldn't change anything.

Fooj!

That is an awesome Mnandi. Is that gold wire and a diamond? If so how is the diamond held in place? Epoxy. How can I get that done to a Mnandi? Who would I have to hire to do it, jewler, what kind of skills?

As far as adamantium, maybe wolverine can let just us have a couple fingers worth. :)

Fooj thanks for sharing!

I like the Mnandi's overall length but I wish it felt a little more substantial in the hand. Keep it the same but make the framelock and blade the same thickness as a small Sebenza. The lock and blade just felt flimsy to me and way too easy to disengage on mine.

Indeed -- diamond and gold inlay on each side. My wife also has one with ebony inlays that she loves. It's quite striking. This was a not-so-uncommon offering from CRK several years ago, and while I haven't seen any produced lately, perhaps CRK would do one for you as a special order.

Adamantium would be an exceedingly difficult material with which to work, because it can only be shaped in liquid form, and once passing into the solid state, it can not be altered without a molecular rearranger . . . I'm sure if adamantium is ever ready for mainstream manufacturing, Chis will be the first to be contacted. :)

I would be all over a Mnandi XL. Exact knife upsized between the large and small Sebenza.
