Improvised Urban Lamp....and some random photos...

Great stuff Mistwalker! What was behind that wall??? I've seen nuts burn before but would of never thought of making a small lantern out of one and a coke can. Keep the great posts coming!

Another great post Mist. I never knew that nuts burned like that. I will need to try that next time I need to get my gear ready to leave from ice fishing on the lake. Hard to do with frozen hands.

Any guesses what's being protected here?

Could it be a big walk in freezer? It looks like it was an addition to the building, and it seems to have electricity.

Glad to see you here Mist.

Good post as always. We used to burn nuts in chem class back in the 70's. Like that Nano-striker Ti. I picked up a pair after I saw yours in a prior post. As much as I like Ti, I got two regulars for about the same price. One for the keyring and one for the BOB.

Thank you. I fell in love with the nano when I first saw it. Yes, the Ti are a bit pricey...regular price plus $48.00...so I only have one of them for now. I have gotten several of the aluminum ones as well. The Ti stays on my key chain and the others stay in kits in my truck and the wife's car, plus I've sent a few to friends.

I've burned nuts as candles before academically, but never tried using them practically out in the field. How did you carry the lantern, out of curiosity? Great post as always, Mist!

Didn't carry it far at all, just used it and timed how long it would work and then dropped it in a near by recycle receptacle. Lots of cans to be found scattered around here.

Good, the Mistwalker returns. :)

Never really left bro, I have been lurking when time permitted, I've just been busy. Not many pics but recent endeavors have given me time to do a bit of studying on smaller knives in an urban environment. I have been enjoying that.

Great photos and info as usual Brian, thanks for posting!

Thanks Mike, glad you enjoyed the post!

Thanks man, that is a cooler at a local high-end grocer's. I laughed at the concertina wire considering a small pair of diagonal pliers could make a nice opening in the fence below making less noise that would be required to get into the cooler. I suppose it's just for the psychological effect...

Yep, the roasting removes a lot of the moisture and adds more oil. The nut works something like a wick but is consumed in the end. I have used them to start fires under damp conditions also. They will burn about ten minutes, long enough to thaw out hands, though of course the larger the nut the more heat.

He already told you it was high dollar meats and seafood, ya bunch of ADHD knuckleheads. :D

LMAO :)

It's always a pleasure and an inspiration to read your posts and enjoy the photos Mist. Thanks!
