I'll be going on a short survival trip soon, taking my boys with me for the first time. I'm lending them a fixed blade each, and was looking for something new for them. Wasn't gonna buy them Busse's straight away and anyway, I can't be bothered scouring the forum for SAR4's (or something in that size range). So I looked at ESEE knives, but then decided to check Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard. Nothing... for them. But Scrap yard still offers the Regulator, and I bought it. :D
Still love the FAT Bussekin knives.

My boys still need a good 4" FB though... ;)

Look at the new bark river STS-3 (DLT Trading Company has the best price and selection).

I would go Barkie, either that or get them a BOSS St. How old are your boys? I picked my daughter up a Bark River Gunny, fits her hands perfectly

Ok, when I took out my son on his first camping trip.. a good ole USMC Ka-bar worked just fine. can't afford to lose too much if they drop it in the woods :-)

I find this knife very handy on camping trips.
Not too big of a blade , two screw drivers, a can opener , a bottle opener and an awl.

Guys guys! Their first FB's were Kershaw Bear Hunters! I'm looking for something a bit sturdier, but still below $100, lol. I might go for a Cold Steel Pendleton, or a Master Hunter. The Fallkniven has a stellar rep, but is outside the budget. So still looking, advice is appreciated but please $100 max! Preferably LESS! :D

if that is the case go with the HRLM it is only 128.00 and a hell of a knife

The Howling Rats HRLM are like 120 or so.
check out the swamp forum.

+1:thumbup: also the Ratmandu I just don't know what the wait time is on these and when you are leaving.

Here is the preorder thread

Good luck on your search. Your boys are going to love whatever you pick out.
