In a Survival Situation 440C Sandvick or D2 steel

So who else is bored-to-near-death of all this sensationalized URGENT SURVIVAL SITUATION QUESTIONS HALP!! stuff?

Only in a country with so many bored people do we get this type of mentality....

  • What are you trying to survive exactly?
  • Why do you care about what steel your knife is made of for this particular situation?
  • Why can't you do some baseline metallurgical research and come to your own conclusion?

Speaking of survival..... I'd be way more worried about how much you have set aside for long term financial survival than anything else. You can't buy knives if your wallet is empty.

Modern day survival in a 1st world country usually entails a short-term power outage or car break-down, so I'd ditch the knife for a bottle opener, a cell phone, and a good pair of walking shoes.

This is reasonable, rational, and perfectly logical with one minor exception: this is not a survival, bottle opener, cell phone or shoe forum. People ask nutty things about knives all the time. Most of the knives themselves are nutty, for that matter. Hell, I'm working from home and carrying two knives on my person at the moment, which is also pretty nutty (Sage 2 and a Southard, thanks for asking).

I think it may have something to do with folks here liking knives, but I could be wrong ;)

Well seeing how 80% of my spare time is spent outdoors it is a consideration of mine.

Having two so/so knees one slip or fall can turn a day hike (see my forum name) into an unplanned over nighter or two. Maybe you have the couch potato lifestyle, but not everyone else does.

I have several hunting knives in D2. I am very fond of that steel while hunting. Once sharpened well, it holds a nice edge for a decent amount of time and is easier to touch up than people think.
