I'm in Canada visiting family and there is a huge Lee Valley store near
me. Lots of great tools. I'm new at knifemaking but is there anything that I should pick up? Anything folks like to get from Lee Valley? Thanks.

They carry the Gransfors Bruks axes

Buy a small forest axe if you don't have one.

Nice axes. Any of the smaller ones good for throwing? I see the big one is used in Swedish Axe Competition. I've gotten into some knife throwing of late. I'll check them out tomorrow.

Any other recommendations. It's a really nice store. Makes you want to be a woodworker.

The store in edmonton recently started to carry blocks of hardwoods for turning but they are also of a good shape to cut for knife scales. Cocobolo, zebrawood, ebony, bocote, purplehart etc...

Lee Valley has a huge stock of GB axes, You can hand pick out the one you want. Just make sure you get a young guy to go in the back to cart them to the front... I got a very nice old man and I waited 15 min fro him to bring them all out.. 3 by 3... 5 trips...

That's a bunch of axes. I liked that big double bit throwing axe but the $239 price was a little too steep. I also like the broad axe, the Swedish carvers axe, and the hatchet. Which ones do you like the best. I'm thinking about picking up another.

I have a SFA and that's all I will ever need. I was there when a man was picking up tools to build a cabin and he got the double bit and the maul Which were AWESOME! (and the Log home building ones) Nice stuff but pricey. If you can see yourself getting anything from them in the future I say buy it where you can hand pick it out of the whole stock... Lee Valley.

Just don't blame me fore the 1000 on your credit card.

get their little red 1x42 belt grinder kit, with just a little help (and a half horse motor) it's a great little flat grinder for pretty cheap. You can get blue zirc belts for it too, I don't remember if the price is good on those. They also have a good selection of japanese waterstones.
