Umm, we're kinda new here, so...
...pardon us buttin' in here folks...but this whole forum looks like the kind of stuff we're interested in, so we hope ya won't take offense.
I'm a "city boy", raised in San Diego, Ca. but did the whole scouting thing up thru Explorers for 6 years, and learned to enjoy the (remote) outdoors...Pacific Crest Trail, etc.
Now at 40, I hike and climb for fun, when I'm not collecting knives...
My wife on the other hand is a Yukoner, born and bred....and that can make for a true wilderness person...she taught me how to pack light and camp deep in the woods.
I figured that with some 25 years of experience with vacations in the wilderness that I kinda knew something...I didn't know "dick all" about wilderness survival, truth be told...
We met over the internet some 3 1/2 years ago, and have been married for 2 now...we're loving life, and I've found a good partner that shares my interests...but I digress...
When I flew up to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, to meet my new internet buddy some 3 years ago, Edna met me at the airport with a carload of camping gear and just said "les' go..."
We headed straight up to Kluane Nat'l park, Yukon Territory... Hell, I didn't even see her place for over a week, we just went camping and hiking for 10 days...
For a minute there I figured that I'd met a Canadian axe murderer, but after 24/7 I realized that I'd met my future wife...lol
Anyhoo...on to the Moose and Grizzly stories
We had a Bull Moose wander into our camp the second night....huge campground...no people, mid August, and I wanted to take pictures of this magnificent beast..."Oh no" Edna says, ya don't want to get too close to that big fella" It looked as if I could have walked under him without stooping!
I was in awe...those are really big animals up there...a huge 4 to 5 year old male OMG! But, alas, I spooked him...and away he went just like a freight train, tearing down the brush and small trees as he went...
A few days later we came over a rise and there was a Grizzly down the slope....he was looking around and sniffing the air and looking right at us from 300 yards away...Edna turned and signaled, "les' go"..and away she went with me in close but reluctant tow...
Later I said that I'd wanted to take pictures and wish we hadn't left so soon, she just looked at me like I had a loose screw...
She then asked if I'd liked eating the fish that we'd caught a few days earlier? "Sure" said I, "They tasted good" "Well, we'd taste good to a bear" she said, and then went on to say that if I persisted in trying to take pictures of a grizzly with my 35mm instamatic she was gonna drop her backpack and run if it charged..."I may not be able to outrun him, but I can sure outrun you" she said...OMFG!
Hmmm....the things we learn...lol
The next day we hiked up the glacier and saw many, many really cool animals, sheep and goats and such...thru the binoculars, the camera was stored for the most part.
Anyhoo, we would love to see your moose pics, and we also plan to stop by to say "hi" from time to time.
