in Great Britain: a call to ban "assault knives"

I just cannot comprehend, that British Police do not even carry guns!....
What happens when they are confronted by a criminal armed with a gun? .... (I'm sure some criminals have access to live guns).... a baton can only do so much...... and I thought my country's laws were oppressive.

Politicians will never understand that banning a weapon is useless!!... Statistics prove that if you ban one weapon, criminals just move to another... and then there's also those criminals who are able to still acquire a so called "prohibited weapon".

Why don't they just look at jails, there are no guns and knives, yet criminals will shank/shiv eachother with sharpened toothbrushes for heaven's sake!

Maybe the reason our police don't carry guns is that our gun laws work? :-O

Seriously though - I'm against stupid laws restricting further our rights to use whatever tools we find useful, but *in the UK*, *given the existing state of affairs*, gun control does work. I'm sure that the very same laws wouldn't work for toffee in the US, but that's a different story. :-)
 
I understand what your saying, look.... I live in Australia, we too have gun control,.... it's just that our Police "are" armed, and I think they need to be, when facing criminals who undeniably have access to firearms, even when they are prohibited nationally.
