What a Great thread! I'll take #85. That's the age of my Dad today. When he was 17, he dropped out of High School, to enlist. (Spring of '42). He told me "That I thought the war would be over before I got through basic training". Well, it wasn't. He spent most of the War years at Pearl Harbor, repairing torpedoes. He still tells me about seeing all of the oil leaking out of the ships that were sunk there, and ..other things..that would occasionally float up from the sunken ships.
Yes, he finished High School and then some, after the War was over. He got out of the Navy, but went back in, and retired as a Chief Torpedomen.
