in need of a chopper

Unless Jerry comes out with a CG Killa Zilla before fall, then your ultimate Busse chopper is the CG NMFBNM or the NMFBM LE. The TT Killa Zilla have a thick edge that needs to be reprofiled to make it a great chopper. I'll let you know how mine is when Garth gets done with it.

I thought you already had that edge on the Zilla reprofiled

Are we talking about a re-re-profile?

You can't really do this stuff that well with just any knife. :D

Sorry about that guys, I arrived at this page through a link and didn't check the location of this thread when I posted my original comment. Had I known, I wouldn't have made a gerber reference in a Busse location :)

You are forgiven.

Are you having garth reprofile the primary grind or just the edge? IMO the edge was on the chunky side but the actual grind of the blade is what needed major work. It was like a maul more than an axe, the edge would bite and then it would just stop.

Right after I got it at Blade last year, Jeremy Horton gave it a proper sharpening, but did not change the profile.

I don't know exactly what they have in mind. Garth is going to call me before he starts, so we will discuss it then. I presume they got a lot of feedback from the Test Team, and suspect they have tried out a new primary grind. You're right, the blade gets too fat too soon. I hope they plan to thin it similar to what PeterPHWS has done. I'll tell Garth that it should optimized as a wood chopper, and I will promise not to chop cinder blocks, rocks or old cars.

Wait for the B-11...check the specs on that before you jump on the secondary market.

i figured the zilla would have been on the tips of everyones tounge. i didnt realize it was quit the reprofiling nightmare in order to become a good chopper. thanks for the suggestions, ill keep an eye out for a NMFBM.

The NMFBM really doesn't need any work to be awesome, they come right from Busse that way.

IMO the NMFBM is the best that Busse has ever made in a Chopper and all around knife. :D

I prefer the NMFBM, also. That said, the zilla definitely has the advantage as a pure chopper, and I don't think anyone disputes that--just very blade heavy and not as versatile IMO, which is why I prefer the NMFBM. But as a pure chopper, the zilla is in a class by itself.

Also, I think the price on the zilla is at an incredibly low ebb currently, and I don't see that situation lasting, considering there aren't many zilla's in circulation--just the Test Team run in limited numbers. I'm amazed that you can buy a piece of satin INFI that big and that powerful for only about $100 over what you'd pay for a CG NMFBM--and probably $200 less than a NMFBM LE. For anyone considering a zilla, now is definitely the time to strike.

Please stop saying this. I can only hold out for so much longer then I'll have to sell a body part for one of these bad boys. :p
