Last Saturday I came back from 3 week business trip to Phillippine. There I had a chance to visit to barrio balisong, thanks to the great favor of forumite, Mr. Peter Cua. He drove his pickup truck all the day for me more than 10 hours, full of nice talking with each other. Going down the expressway, climbing up and down Tagay Tay, we reached barrio balisong. Last December I found 1 foot balisong and thought it's quite a large balisong. But I forgot to ask if it was the biggest one. This time I made the question, and had the answer "NO!".

So I brought a 29 incher, real beinte-nueve into Japan. 29 inch blade, not 29 cm OAL. My suitcase almost broke. Thank you, Peter! Philipine's like heaven for balisongholic. For non-balisong people, the view of the micro volcano on top of Tagay Tay would be enough to visit there.

Hi, Susan, ohisashiburidesu! After a few days since the trip now, I really miss the nice view and fresh air of TagayTay. All my collegues there (remember, it was BUSINESS trip, basically) go play golf every weekend, and says it's nice all around Batangas.

Daykind, I think I should try when I find way to register in photopoint.com. which I've never tried.

Hopefully an associate of my mom will go back to the Philippines (since he is Filipino and visits often) so hopefully he'll pick up a kris, a 3 ft OAL, and a few others for me

I would love to visit the Philippines sometime but it doens't look promising.

My big question is how on earth would you bring a FHM into the US? Last time I went I was given two balis by family and bought one. When i went through customs they confiscated them all. They were Xraying every piece of luggage on the flight. Do they not do this sometimes, or fail to see balis sometime, or should I have mailed them instead.

You should've mailed them, Federico.

Err.. Mini volcano? You mean Taal Volcano? lol.. you're just looking at the tip, man.

Balisong heaven is an understatement, hehe.. If you want the biggest, they one that's almost sword-like in size.

You can get the balisong for whatever size you want. They make them starting at 90cm OAL and go up in increments of 10cm.

Taal volcano, you're right Dan it's just the tip. Actually the whole Taal Lake is originally a volcano crater with Tagaytay being part of the volcano ridge. But i think that would be thousands of years ago.

Great commets from Filipinos! My toy was 29" closed, but still longer than bolo that I bought at the same shop! When opened, it has as long blade as a sword with same length of handle. OAL about 4'. It's HUGE!

Is the name of mini volcano Taal volcano? I couldn't find a good map around there, but had a nice lunch seeing a nice view of the smallest volcano.

Going down from smallest volcano, you'll find biggest balisong. It's the way to balisong heaven.

It was PHP 3,500. (around $70) After some discount was made, I bought it at PHP 2,500 ($50).

How do you think?
It is Balisong heaven!

Great pics, thanks a bunch; really like the 'draw from the pocket'!

Thanx for compliments about pics.

I planned "draw from mouth" version at first until I remembered the balisongs are made of non-stainless steel...

Hey Paul, I think he got the granddaddy of all balisongs, popularized by our local actor Dencio Padilla.

Man, you're going to have one heckuva time sharpening that thing! lol..

I'm going there this weekend. The mayor has invited my dad to visit him, so I'll take advantage of that and look around for some good 'ol knives while I'm there.

The more I look at it I keep thinking to myself you have to post that on some sword forum. That thing is huge and definitely bigger than even some full size swords. I wonder what sword people would think of something of those proportions. Again wow
smile.gif

WOW
eek.gif
That is BIG!!!

No one was making those big ones before until a filipino comedian (Dencio Padilla) popularized them in his movies.
