Just wanted to congratulate Spyderco for their Byrd line of knives.
I have a G-10 Cara Cara and love it. The fit n' finish is great, it's smooth working, holds a great edge, and the price was RIGHT!...~$25 from southsummit.com.

I know some folks hate China-made knives but, politics aside, I can find nothing to gripe about with this Byrd.

Keep up the good work, Sal !!

Yeah, I'm sure they're great knives. They're attractive and all, and under Spyderco, I'm positive that their quality is fine, but I just won't buy chinese if I don't have to.

I am glad that you are enjoying your new Cara Cara, Mike. I was so impressed with mine, that I bought all the variations too.

Glad you like the Byrd, its a great knife for the buck:thumbup:
I just finished opening my Spyderco Sage ( Taiwan ) with the carbon fiber handles and the very nice edc size, this is a keeper for sure.
Its a darn nice product, I'm tempted to purchase another for back up.
as long as Spyderco is on top of the imported lines, we should receive great value for the money. I think my Caly is going on a Sabbatical for a while. :p

It may seem like a bad thing all the economic hardship with the falling dollar and mortage crisis and the price of oil but all those things are going to make manufacturing in the US
profitable again. Spyderco as one of the few US companies that both makes stuff in the US and overseas is going to kick butt. Some of it's biggest competition is probably going to be from the people and factory and people who make the Byrd knives in China.

Still in the long term the US is going to do well economically for the same reasons they won the war against Japan.

The Byrds are great functional knifes, I'm especially impressed by the small "big knife" Robin. For the price they perform very well :)

I for one, am very glad to see that Spyderco sees fit to offer products geared towards a wide range of users. I am not in particular a fan of the Byrd opening hole (it's ugly and a little less smooth to open) but the Byrd line offers quite a bargain for users interested in an inexpensive folder of high quality. I will stick to my higher end Spyderco knives but happily recommend Byrd to those unwilling to spend as much. Country of origin is not so much a problem to me as much as build quality and Byrd is no doubt up to Spyderco's standards of reliability.

I got a few after being impressed by the first one. I have a wing, flight, catbyrd, and tenacious, which isn't really a byrd, but then again it kind of is.

The flight is just amazing with the swedge thing and all. It was a little stiff at first but I very very slightly loosened the screws and worked it and it's great now. It was a concern because it could hang open ever so slightly and I carry tip up. The scalloped spacer is kind of neat too. Everything fits together so well it's like one piece of steel!

The wing is slightly awkward in the hand, which I had expected, but for what I use a knife for it will do just fine. Again, the overall quality of fit and finish really impressed me. It's a large knife but carries well clipped to my pocket.

The hole was a turn off for me at first and I couldn't figure out why someone would get one of those instead of a real spydie. I like them now though. I have a gerber ezout that has kind of the same hole. The edge rolls with hardly any use at all. I have not changed the factory edge at all, it didn't really need sharpening except to line up the edge. Kind of turned me against gerbers.
