Went Backpacking last weekend and instead of my Reeves took my GB mini.

We had huge fires both nights we stayed and cut up trees up to about 5" across with it, even got a fire hot enough to bake pepperoni rolls inside a pot we set on a rock beside the fire.

We were too busy chopping to take pics but here's a pic of it in my pack. Very compact! Didn't feel under axed at all and had plenty of firewood.

PS Check out that huge fungi. Is that a big mofo or what? Thing was probably 20" across and the ground for 10" around had spores on it. Very cool.

The GB Mini Is the Perfect Backpacking Hatchet, Nothen "But The Best" Sound's like It did a great job for ya, That Fungi Is pert neer as Big as your pack ! Great picture's from the BackWood's Thank's for sharing them,

Cool pic and massive fungi!

Hey - what is that on the outside of your pack that looks like a strip of duct tape?

Unless you cleared those suckers with the mini, I'd get that section of trail reported. Let them know they've got some problematic blowdowns. Those guys can cause social trails pretty quick.

Good to know that the Mini works so well. I handled one at Piragis Outfitters in Ely, MN a few weeks back. It seemed so tiny. I ended up getting the GB Wildlife hatchet, just a bit bigger. Gransfors really makes a nice product, no matter what size.

Im 99% sure that mushroom is a Hen of the Woods. Edible. I have never ate one but have a friend who does. Suppose to be superb. I had one grow in my yard and he harvested it.

What area were you backpacking in?

Brandon

The backpack fungi pics were taken about halfway up Posession camp trail in the Otter Creek Wilderness in the Monongahela National Forest.

The tree obstacle was taken on the Otter Creek Trail.

The log over the mudhole was not far from the junction of Possession Camp Trail and Green Mountain Trail heading up toward the ridgeline of Shavers Mt.

I've been to Otter Creek almost once per summer but we had not hiked Mylius, Shavers Mt, Green Mountain or the upper half of Posession camp since 1994 so it was really cool to visit those places again!

I'm working on sizing down all of my pics and posting them as I have time if you want to check

Awsome. I've spent quite a bit of time in Otter Creek. I need to get back up there.

The Wildlife is a killer chopper. (I have one)My vote for the best hatchet ever of that size. But unless it was the dead of winter and I absolutely needed a fire for heat too heavy for me. And in that case I'd probably just pack more clothes or a thicker sleeping bag.;) Great for car camping or trail cleaing though.

Maybe but I've eaten commercially grown hen of the woods and this was difft. More hard and woody like the artist conk.

Have you ever hiked to Potato Knob?

Several friends have suggested that and it would seem to be near to your location relatively speaking.

If you have got any pics?

This is really funny timing, I was just plotting on how to pick up a Mini! I loved the one of yours I played with. Seems like a great woods partner. Sadly the cost is borderline ridiculous for them right now. Tough decisions...
