I wish I could get the pattern similar from one side to the other. Each side looks cool, but it's soooo different from one side to the other. On one side the laddering looks like laddering. On the other side it leans towards a random pattern.

I'm going to use two kinds of ebony for the handle. Some African Black Ebony with an Indonesian Macassar Ebony spacer up next to the guard. I haven't decided yet on the guard though. I'm leaning towards nickel silver.

Thanks for looking.

To get your ladder more even try patterning the steel closer to the final thickness. If you want an 1/8in thick finished blade, pattern the billet when it is 3/8in thick. Mill your ladder slots 1/3 of the total thickness in depth and 3/16-1/4 in apart. Make sure they are staggered alternating on each side then draw the billet out.

Thank you. If I remember correctly, I think it was at 1/2" or 5/8" that I laddered it.

I think you also need to go with a higher layer count for the ladder to be more consistent. The steel still looks good!

Thanks Ray. It's still only one more weld, either way. I'll just cut it in thirds and restack it instead of folding it next time.
