Been pretty busy and tired lately, haven't spent too much time on the forums. Saw a couple days ago Monte's thread

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1031633-Shooting-Grip-Essentials

and been meaning to watch it, I go and try to watch it tonight......BAM....link removed and Monte locked the thread

So...got on youtube and watched it.......twice.....

VERY FREAKING FUNNY!!!

Just wanted to say thanks for the great find man

Yeah I didnt find it offensive at all. Gangsters can be black, white, asian, hispanic, arab...I mean they all act like that regardless of their skin type. I for one dont think it crossed racial lines. I can see how one might interpret it differently but again, no remarks to the race of the gangster.

Monte didn't lock the thread originally, Morrow did, and his post before the lock explains why. I do see that Morrow did unlock the thread for Monte, who I believe re-locked it after his last post. I personally don't think Monte posted it for the wrong reasons but for the humor, but I also understand why Morrow made the decision to lock the thread.

Whether or not anyone who saw it was offended, the fact remains that this discussion forum website has well over 200,000 members from all over the world who are of all races, genders, religious beliefs, political affiliations, nationalities, etc. Basically, we are a mixed bag of company from all walks of life, and we should take a moment before posting to think on whether or not there may be an offensive element to our posts or attachments to posts by other members reading them... Because although we may not agree with the next member over any of the above differences, we are here for our shared common interest of all things sharp and useful. :)

I'm sure I've offended some people with my Glock talk. People post in Political about how I shouldn't have a specific firearm because someone, somewhere, misused it; that statement offends me. Monte posted a video once of a Key and Peele skit about racist zombies, which I'm sure someone, somewhere, found that offensive.

Point being, anything said, good or bad, can offend someone, somewhere. Me being American I'm sure angers someone, somewhere. So where do we draw the line of what is offensive and what is acceptable? Nothing racist in the video was said, the term "urban" was used. Doesn't what we call "urban" completely depends on the person, and isn't that person actually the one profiling a group of people for lumping them in the "urban" group?

Long story short, it's the internet, and some people get offended WAY too easy.

Still a funny video :D

And I'm sure this will make someone upset, but it has to be said

FOLDER!!!!!

:D :) :D

What Monte s YouTube handle. I missed the link. I'm going to go, uh, check its content...

ETA never mind I located the video. Very funny. Did it make anyone else nervous watching them shoot?

I thought the video was funny as hell.......I am offended by MORROW avitar......I am a lesbian trapped in a mans body.....his avitar is sexist to women....:D

It wasn't racist at all, I've arrested all races for selling crack....

People will cry everywhere, everyone think their voice is important. Bottom line, it's not and cause one person throws a hissy fit, they shouldn't get their way. And out of the 200k member, how many sell crack, cause that is who the video was making fun of.

I hate the level of "PC" people think they need.

As this issue is covered by a sitewide rule that is not just limited to here in the Busse forum, if anyone feels strongly enough about it they are invited to start a thread on this topic in the Tech Support, General Q&A, Site Feedback & More forum.

A glock isn't race, it's a gun, a consumer good. They do not carry the same kinds of personal affects.

The word 'gangsta' combined with 'crack dealers' is not without it's inherent racial element, if your going to be poor and living in a ghetto (thus more likely to commit lower than white collar crime) your more likely to be a minority. Just because there is a representative of each race in the statistic doesn't erase the disproportionate representation of minorities in the combined categories. Just because you want a joke to not be about race won't erase the obvious racial elements when the statistics historically and currently look like these:
http://www.statehealthfacts.org/comparebar.jsp?ind=14&cat=1
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_crime_in_the_United_States

I can't give direct statistics on hip hop and rap demographics as none exist that are available to the public in an accessible form. However because of the perceived connection between crime and rap it is difficult to assume that the racial elements do not also directly translate to that catagory as well. I beleive these things are what marrow was refering to when he said " Are we stereotyping a particular demographic here? These are rhetorical questions as the answers are pretty obvious. "

To my ears and eyes it was mostly making fun of the ridiculousness of the stance as a tactical approach. But when you deal with a broad audience as a moderator you get to make the hard choices like what's likely to get out of line and turn bad after 15 pages and how to interpret site rules that have to be applied to a variety of linguistic nuances. An unenviable task that always leaves someone feeling as though they've been short shrifted.

LVC....just for the sake of good debate, and nothing against you....Have you ever seen the movie Malibu's Most wanted. Circa 2003. That movie is about a rich white kid who plays up to all the stereotypes of the ghetto gansta. He gets thrown in the hood and gets a dose of reality. I mean seriously, are we saying that that movie is offensive? Its a slapstick comedy about how rich white kids think they are all raw and hard when they have no clue about being a real gangsta in the hood. Is that offensive because he is making fun of ganstas? If I make a Jeff Foxworthy redneck joke, will I get the same reaction? Prob not, because the target of the joke is poor/stupid white people. Again the video was about how ridiculous gangstas act, not what color they are. Would any trained military or police officer (white or black) use a gun like that? of course not. Its not about the race (although you are right, most gangstas tend to be minorities), its about how stupid certain people act. I think Gravelface has a point. If you are looking to be offended, you will find something. Nothing is 100% PC. And to find something offensive about that video is really pushing the limits of my reality. The only people who should be offended by that are people who act like that. And honestly, if you are a gangbanger who carries around a gun and executes other people and gets into street battles then i dont think anyone really cares if you are offended by it. I mean who are we really offending here? Who are we making fun of? Is Obama offended? He is black but not a gangsta. Martin Luther King? Not a gangsta. Bill Cosby? Not a gangsta. Are respectable, honest, hardworking African Americans offended? I doubt it. So its not about black people. Its about people who glorify a violent, ghetto lifestyle. Thats all

Love that movie!!!!

Wait, because I love a movie that makes fun of rich white kids, I'm sure I offended someone, now just waiting for this comment to get reported.........

And the moderators do a bang up job! They are overworked and under appreciated, but at what point do you step on the toes of dozens to coddle the 1 person who feels an imaginary slight.

double tap...

But I'll use it even if out of order...

It is a PITA finding that line, however, that is not only a touchy subject, but with many views. How does one determine where the line is? Beats me. I try to do what's fair, and so do the other site Mods... Sometimes we get it right, sometimes not so much. Them's the breaks, and it is what it is. Similar with your job, Jason...yes?

Jason, If you want to get snarky, maybe I should just save myself the trouble and lock this thread now?

In all honesty, you probably should....as I'm sure it will spiral downward.

And no snark here, that's all in the Becker forum!!!
I'm just being a smart ass:D

I was just crackin' wise at you a bit, but you're right...this thread has the potential on taking a downward spiral and so I probably will lock it.

Did use my double tapped post with other comments, but my 2 posts probably read out of order...oh well. Something funny with the site, I've never DT'd so much in one week in the 7 years on here.

I've typed 2 responses to your double tap, and erased it both times. It's best saved for a pm, seriously I don't want folks seeing what I typed as they could twist it and turn it into a WHOLE other topic.

I will send you a PM soon

Eta.

But I am curious if the slighted person would give their point of view on the video. I'm betting they wont and would rather post under the anonymity......

Please keep open for a spell longer, just to see

OMFG! I am continually amazed at what folks get offended by or try to be offensive with. When something makes me uncomfortable, I generally try to understand it, or go look at something else. Pretty simple. Plus, I don't particularly give a crap if somebody wants to make fun. Just be accurate.

Besides, I've known way more white gangstas and crack dealers.

Oh, and maybe this will keep this in the Busse forum.

OOps! I meant......

Well this might be the hardest thing I have done here. Maybe anywhere....

You bet wrong my brother, and since called on it......Let me be the first to say "It was me". I was offended.

Yeah thats right. The redneck from GA was offended for a multitude of reasons.

1. Pure and simple-it was a racist video. I have seen this subliminal crap most of my life. I dont care if the one guy at end tried to soften it up with the hey you cant play soccer etc. THe first half of video was explicit and clear of whom it was mocking. You take urban gangsta, crack head, crotch grabbing, along with break yo self, and rest of urban slang etc, and no one with any common sense, or self deciency can deny who was being mocked IMHO.

2. It stuck out like a sore thumb to me especially coming from someone who had just lit others up over a hat presummably made by Disney of all companies that was period authentic, and a piece of history for no reason in my opinion. THe hat shot a bird at a country that took our hostages 30 years ago, but it didnt disparage them, mock them or make derogatory comments about them in any way so it stayed, and will stay if I have any say.

3. It was so hypocritical. See here. THe last part really sealed the deal for me with we are here to enjoy Busse knives and not make fun of others. Which it plainly did!
Coolest hat? Awesome? Really?

I for one find it pretty distasteful and ignorant when I see someone making derogatory comment about another nation, culture, race, ethnicity, religion etc.

You shouldn’t hold an entire population accountable because of the actions of their politicians.

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing to do with the nation of Iran. I for one as well as many from here wouldn’t like it if someone took an undeserved swipe at this great nation just because they don’t agree with the policies of our government, on its own interests and in world affairs. I just think our brothers and sisters from other nations should get same respect from us.

We come to this forum because we love Busse and kin knives, not to make fun of others. I believe there is another sub forum to do that.

But I will say this in his defense. I dont think he was intentionally meaning to do so. Atleast, I hope not. I will say that I thought it was very classy of Mamun to ask Morrow to allow him to post a retraction and an apology, and I think it was classy of Morrow to allow him to do so, and not just leave it making him look like an azz. But, I will say that what he did doesn't concern me as much as this thread, and the arguements for its defense

4. You guys dont have to deal with the aftermath of this crap either.[/B] You can put it up and hhaaa haa hee hee all you want, but how in the heck do you think it makes "US" all look???? HUH! Especially, Jerry. To those that would possibly read this now, but especially in the future an unknowingly think he condoned it. THings posted here stay here even locked can be searched and found.

So for now thats enough and I dont think I need to expound on it any further. I am also not going to lock it so that any and all can post replies

If you would like to discuss in an adult manner please feel free either here or by pm, but let me tell you this for fair warning. You send me an "F U" or anything else insulting and ignorant like another here did recently that didnt get the infraction. I will light you up like a roman candle! I will hang a 40 point anchor around your neck for mod sass so that you can carry out the rest of your days walking on egg shells

Now any of you think that modding is all that. Please post up here and put your name in the hat. Modding is damn hard especially for me. Most blue modds wear two hats-A bladeforums hat and their own. Most red modds wear three hats- BF, Forum they represent, and their own. Me? I wear at least 4 and in this order- Busse Combat, Bladeforums, Knifehunter.com, and finally my own. Does anybody else see the irony there? I do especially now that I am going to give it a shot at going full time dealer. Looks like I have your well being, and that of Busse Combat first, then BF and finally my own business that will hopefully cover my expenses and provide for my real family. This may be why it doesnt make much sense for me to be a mod cause there is nothing in it for me but heartache and heartburn. But, thats part of being a good man. I will always look out for you, my dysfunctional family, even if you dont see it regardless of what it may cost, and I will have no regrets as I am only doing my best.
