If I can manage to complete my first attempt at damascus I’m working on without ruining the billet, I’d like to try doing my first antler handle for it (because why not tempt fate). I’m wondering where folks source their antler from. I’ve found some red stag pieces on USA knifemaker, but I was curious if there were other places to be looking as well. I’m not particular to the type of antler (unless someone tells me I should be), and I’m just looking for a piece to do a hunter sized handle. Preferably looking for somewhere to buy individual pieces where you can see the actual piece before buying. I don’t make enough to go with the buy a bulk lot and sift through it approach.

Do you guys have Facebook in Vermont?. Here in Washington I just pop onto the local Facebook classifieds and post that I’m looking for antler. I usaly have them beating down my door with all the antler I could ever need. But we have tons of deer here. This allows you to look it over in person and pick what is best for your needs.

Facebook and local people!!! I get a lot from locals and my dad is a forester so he comes across a lot. I had a few follower on my FB page give me some for free, others gave me extra when I used their antler for a knife they ordered.

Of all the darn places to find it, I found an excellent elk antler as a chew toy at Petco of all places.
