In The Bush (pics)

some years back up in the berkshires this guy had a few dogs, they went missing for a few days some come back. the ones that returned were tore up pretty bad, one had to be put down the others went to the vet and got fixed up. the man asked what might have caused this? ( he thought a bear, we have black bears all over) the vet said that this was to clean, like cuts not tearing and breaking like a bear would. the vet said it most resembled a mountain lion or other large cat. there have been multiple sightings of mountain lions and even a few grew wolves in quabbin reservoir. the decrease of hunting could have easily made it possible for the cats to come back. and massachusetts has been denying it like other states. im more happy that they're coming back.

A state isnt going to acknowledge the existence of cougars until there is undeniable proof. They cant rely on eyewitness accounts because they are usually wrong. Look at CBwoods post. He lives close to me and stated there are tons of sightings. Once word gets around everybody sees them.

Here is the story, and its not all of it, about bigfoot a few miles from where I live. Once the first report came in , they came in by droves. There were armed people walking around the hills. It was nuts. http://www.bigfootencounters.com/creatures/momo.htm

Yea. Of course people will see what their minds want them to. I saw pictures from a trail cam of a cougar about 2 miles from my house. I know the property and recognize the surroundings. Makes coon hunting that area a little scary. What some people say is that the DNR released them to try to maintain the insane deer population. Of course they deny it. It is hard to separate the bullshit from fact, but in this instance, there are big kitties amongst us.

I don't find it strange when people claim to see Mountian Lions, Cougars. There are some out there, some sightings are undoubtedly people's imagination. The thing that I really find peculiar is the fact that more people have seen "Black Panthers" rather than just a big brown Cougar.

There have been 3 Black Cat reports in this area over the last 5 years. Location about 30 miles south of Downtown STL in rural Illinois. That is where I took the pictures and the heart of where the sightings have been. My Grandmother had a encounter last summer at daybreak on her property in the back of her house.
She has been living in the country and deer hunted with my grandpa for many years. She knows what animals look like. She said without a doubt 100% what she saw was a large Black Cougar.

What gets me is my Grandpa Coon hunted these hills for 40 years and never saw one.

The DF was on my hip...

Hi,

What is that knife, please ? I don't know the meaning of "DF"...

Thanks

I don't blame you for not wanting to go in that cave.
A few years ago, I saw a young cougar coming out of a cave in Yorkshire, England. I stopped looking for caves on my own then!
Its amazing where those big cats can end up living.
Ta for the nice pics.

The DF stands for Delta Foxtrot, that's the model of that knife. I carried that particular one for a while and put it through a lot before I sent it to the OP in a give away. Dylan makes awesome knives, his ergos are fantstic, his grinds are awesome, and his heat treats are very well done. I'll be picking up a BO or a BO XL as soon as I find the one that speaks to me.

Hey High Density, I'm in St.L too. Where is the area specifically that you took these shots? Part of the Mark Twain Forrest?
Thanks.

Please note: I am in no way trying to discredit your Grandmother, but merely trying to explain how easy it can be to be fooled on color in improper lighting. I would be willing to bet that what she saw was a regular cougar. As you mentioned it was at day break, which means that although it may have looked black, most likely it was improper lighting making it appear that way. the black panthers that everyone always refers to are actually black jaguars, and mostly only live in a very remote patch of South America.

However, I wont say that black cougars do not exist because it is very well possible for that trait to occur in nature; not much different than a white tiger, even though the chance is 1:1,000,000. If people in that area truly are seeing a black cougar, chances are that it is the same cougar every time.

Also as others have noted, when one person reports seeing something, such as a large black cat or sasquatch and it makes the news, there is a very large increase in the number of sightings. where as if it is delayed in being reported usually there is not.
