HELP ME CHOOSE MY NEW EDC KNIFE!!!!

Hello, so as the title says I'm in the market for a new knife. I'm rewarding myself for getting a C on my Algebra 2 final (this is good for me, the highest I've gotten on a math final is a D).

Here's a little about myself and how I use my knives. I'm 17 and have been making knives for 3 years, and have been seriously into knives for about that long. I've EDC’d a SAK Cadet and Spyderco Delica 4 in that time frame. I typically use my EDC knife for opening mail, cutting paper or rope. Definitely not hard use, I use a fixed blade for any hard use. I love my Delica, but I'm looking for something easier to close one handed/ fun to play with. Here's what I'm looking for in my blade.

Budget of $200, but cheaper is always appreciated.
Around 3” a little more or less is fine.
I'm not picky about weight, but something that won't pull my pants down would be nice.
Folding only, I'm not a fan of EDCing a fixed blade
Manual opening, no assisted opening.
No lock back I'm looking for something different.
American made is always great, but not required.
Screw together construction, because I'm thinking I would want to pimp it.
Steel isn't a big factor, but I prefer sharpenability and toughness over edge retention.

Thanks for sticking around and reading this. Hopefully I covered everything Just to spice things up here's a pic of my first and only friction folder. 1095 steel with a orange juice patina, blue g10, copper liner and pins.

Get a Spyderco Delica in your favorite color or a Benchmade Mini Griptilian. You will not do better. Save your money.

The biggest problem with algebra, besides too much party and not enough study, is we tend to try to over think. The best advice I ever got from an algebra teacher was when he gave a formula and said, "do it this way. It is always done this way. Don't do it differently."

It's a little rough around the edges but you're of to a good start in your knife making.

I'll suggest a

Spyderco manix 2 or lightweight
Ontario RAT 1
Or for that money you're certainly in GEC territory and could get a beautiful American made traditional knife. A Bull nose would get you the length your thinking of our maybe a boy's knife with a sheepsfoot main blade...

What other knives have you liked?

Thanks. I was thinking of getting a new Delica to pimp. On to pre-calc next! Hopefully I can get'er done.

Yeah I'm going to stick with fixed blades, until I refine my skills a bit. Just like everyone else in the knife community I have been bitten by the framelock flipper bug, but I'm liking the Zt 808.

How about a domino to go with that delica? Cts-xhp is nice stuff and lots of customizable options to work with.

I forgot about the domino. I would definitely get a chance to make a new handle scale, as the carbon fiber is kinda ugly.

Benchmade 940....won't explain because it fits your requirements besides s30v might be a little tough for you to sharpen

best lock for easy one handed opening and closing....when axis lock is disengaged the blade will just glide around free, like its on ice

Here's a few suggestions to throw in:

1) Southern Grind Spider Monkey:

2) Fantoni HB 02 (I have a spare one, which I could sell - LNIB):

3) Benchmade 556-1 Mini Griptilian:

4) Spyderco Sage 1 (liner lock):

The most fun blades I have, in no particular order, Domino, Southard, 940 or 943, Para 2 and a ZT 450. All of them very 'pimpable'!!!
Can't go wrong with any of them!!
Good luck!!
Joe

Benchmade Griptillian is what first came to mind. Then Benchmade 940 and oh, oh the Spyderco PM2

Save yourself about $100 and pick up a H&K Axis( Made by Benchmade). The mini has a 3" blade.

It is coated D2 but I suppose you could strip it and polish it with your pimping if that bothers you.

I have the full size. 3.65" blade. Third knife down. Fun to play with, but to be honest I carry my Emerson daily so I don't use it much.

Look at the zt 562 pretty well fits all your requirements or a deassited zt 566

Thanks for the input I'm liking the looks of the Domino, also checking out the ZT 900 and 808, and benchmade 940.
