Seller is 95% sure this is a Buck Night Hawk from the '70's or possibly the '60's. It has a 420HE stainless blade. Any takers?

My "question" to the seller:

Your knife is not a Buck, it's more than likely made in Pakistan and is clearly marked "Stinger" All Bucks are marked Buck. FYI, Nighthawks started being made in the 1990's. If you doubt any of this you are more than welcome to join http://www.bladeforums.com and go to the Buck section and some more well informed people will tell you the same thing.

I own this knife. Igot it by an accident. It is an ugly piece of worthless tin with cheap made brass guard and pommel. The worth of the knife tends to zero. Or you get money if you take it

 How on earth did you read that? Man, I thought it said "stainless". Anyway, I sent him a message before I posted that here telling him much the same thing. He's changed the listing now.

Here's the message I sent him.

"Dear dave59847,

Hi, I thought I should let you know that your knife is not what you think it is. The NightHawk wasn't introduced until 1994 and has always had rubber handles and a black oxide coated blade. The shape and design is different completely from the knife you are listing. Also, Buck never stamped any of their blades as "stainless". Your knife appears to me to be something made in Pakistan although it could have ben made in China. It most definately not a Buck in any case. Just thought you should know.

Here's the reply that I just got from the seller minutes ago.

"Dear plumberdv,

Thank you for pointing this out. I am selling this for my son. It is easy to take advantage of someone if they don't know what to look for. We will make the corrections. I certainly dont want to pass along a fraud.
Dave

It seems he took our messages in the spirit that they were sent, to educate, not to harrass.

I have very good eyesight, just not up close anymore.

You sure it doesn't say "Stinker"? I blew it up and although I can't read it very well, there's too many letters to be Stinger.

I'm pretty sure the Nighthawks came out prior to '94. I was stationed in Berlin from 88-90 and had a guy in my unit with a Nighthawk. I'd say probably around 89 when he bought the knife.

If you're replying to me, I don't know why you feel a need to shout with the all caps stainless. Post 6 says:

There's no mention of "STAINLESS" in that post.

There is no mention of the knife being introduced in 1994 other than in that post.

It's funny how the memory can play tricks on you. I'm living proof of that! You must be confusing the Nighthawks with the Kraton handled fixed blades. Here's a scan of the 1989 catalog showing them. Below that is a scan of the 1994 catalog, showing the first time the Nighthawk was shown or mentioned in any catalog.

Well, you got to the party a little late. The original listing for the knife said it was a Buck Nighthawk with this "95% sure this is a Buck Night Hawk from the '70's or possibly the '60's." I contacted the seller and after that, he changed the listing to what shows now if you look at it. The only markings on the knife according to the seller was "stainless".

What is really puzzling me is how something knife-shaped like this gets made in the first place. For the amount of time and material it took to make it, one could have made a real knife. I mean, it's so amusingly bad that it's almost as if the maker hopes that the buyer has never seen a hunting knife before.

Can they even do that in Pakistan?;)

Well, my memory sucks lately, so that's a distinct possibility. :D I do remember the knife had a green handle and coated blade. It also didn't have the same blade profile as my 119. It must have been some kind of limited run with the green Kraton handle.

I got to the party late, but I read the thread. I was replying to your mention of the date. The stainless part was irrelevant, so I'm not sure why the other poster was shouting at me about that in all caps.
