Hello,
I have a problem; I can't stop thinking about knives lol. I went out and bought a few books on making knifes (David Boye) and I flip thru these books like a mad man looking at the same pages over and over. I started buying pre made knifes that you just have to build the handle to get a feel for it. My big hold up is a 2inch belt sander... I know you could just use files, you could do it by hand but I would like to start with a sander. I am a DYI person so I probably will try to build one next. My question and back to the title is Does anyone make knives in RHODE ISLAND or where would be the closes place to me that I could actually see someone make a knife and maybe get some feed back about making knives first hand. Rhode is pretty much the city but when you’re looking for knife makers it's in the sticks...

Thank You
Ron Glanville

not sure of local, but there is a knife seminar coming up out near Kingston NY, looks like you are
about as far east as I am west of that location, so it's a little bit of a drive but a great weekend.
See this thread about Ashokan Seminar

and welcome to the forums and the steel virus! :)

Ron, first of all welcome to the forums. We have a number of knikemakers here in Southern New England. I have Hammer In's here a few times a year. Where abouts in RI do you live???? You are welcomed to stop by my shop here in New Bedford, MA.:D

Well thank you everyone for responding to my post. Gary I was checking out that link and that is definitely something I will look into for next year that sounds like I could learn allot but this month is a tough month to have a weekend for myself lol...

Indian George I would really like to take you up on your offer, you are probably just 45-60 minutes away. I’m in Woonsocket, RI not to far down the road. If you don’t mind someone over your shoulder I would really like to see what it takes to make a knife. Again thanks for checking out my post

rjason,
Welcome to the forums. Filling out your profile will allow folks to know where you are and more about you.

I believe there are several makers in or around Woonsocket. IG is a good guy, and a visit with him will be fun. It is safer to go when he has a group hammer-in, that way there are others to save you.;):D
