In the year 1974, Twenty Three Hours and viola, a Custom Knife.

Cool! :) I like that handle!
Can't think of anything better to pass down to the coming generations than something made by your own hand. My grandfather was a machinist/inventor and my dad (and my brother and I) really cherish the tools and other things he made himself:)

My little brother just brought over his first hand forged blade that he made on his recently completed forge--did a damn fine job too:) Straight as an arrow and very nicely forged. Just a simple blade design, but a functional one. He hasn't tempered it yet, but I'm sure he'll do a good job. He seems to have quite a natural talent for forging, maybe he'll become a custum knifemaker...I hope so for my own selfish reasons:D:rolleyes:

Yvsa, I graduated HS in 74,to put your knife in perspective. How old were you when you made it?

Munk, I was 34 when the side of me that finally came under control made the knife. Fortunately the talent came with me.:)

Help! Help! Stay away from me!!!

It's kinda aggravating to me to see the knife sitting on the mantle of the fireplace and not being used at least once or twice a year.
A lot of deer could be dressed with it without any harm or noticeable wear.
However the way myself to some small extent, my son and grandson have taken the family name I would be proud to have it passed down a thousand years or more but if somewhere down the line the family name becomes once again what I have had to live down then I would see the knife castrate the last male family member so the name would no longer exist in the minds of civilized men.
I and my son can testify that it's not the origins that we come from that shape us but what we choose in life's adventure.
Thankfully and hopefully my grandchildren and beyond will never have to make those same choices.

...you just had to use the word "castrate", didn't you...

Poor Bruise...

:D:D    :p  :barf:  :(

 Yvsa's one of the last people I'd want chasing me with sharp objects.

What kind of wood is that handle and what kind of finish did you put on it? It's not as shiny as the superglue finishes I've seen but it could be just well worn.

Bruise the wood was 40 year old American Black Walnut that's now getting close to 70 years old.:)
The finish is just simply oil, not any special oil as my hands were often oily from the machines I ran although I did rub a lot of the Old English Lemon Oil into the handle years ago after I finished the knife.
The handle looks well worn because I buffed the oil into the wood without using any buffing compound.
The handle is as comfortable and warm as it looks although the brass fittings do get very cold in the winter.

Oh, and Bruise you wouldn't have to worry. I don't move all that fast.:D

I hate to say this Bruise, but looking at the cartoons above, it looks as though he means to "De-Flower" you;) :p :D

Classic pun, Rob! Heehe! If he does, you'll have to "stem" the flow of blood somehow! "Stamen" touch.

:D Touche!

"What's-stomata"?! You don't like the sight of blood?

Careful or he might wipe the "fleurs" with you:D

heehee Can't resist a few more.

Maybe Bruise could fend him off with a "pistil."
Now he'll have to "petal" his wares somewhere else!
He might've gotten away if he "rose" earlier in the "morning glory."

Heehee!

Yeah. The only difference between being punned or prunned is the "r.":p :D ;)

To put a positive spin on the picture... I think I'm showing great dignity and modesty in the face of mortal danger. :)
