In Theory Only: 50 State Pass around?

This sounds like a great idea. I have a Camillus EDC I would throw in for the rotation. lets do it. 2 weeks a knife sounds like more than enough time, and sending it to the next person you should have no excuse for not sending it on time. Personally I have no trouble staying interested in these passarounds. Damn I just got done reading the Spdy thread again!

I wonder if there would be any trading or buying that would result from a pass around like this one?

For example: Joe is looking to shrink his collection. So, he throws a knife out into the pass-around pool and tells everybody it's up for grabs. It makes its way to dude #27 (Bob) who thinks it's the cat's meow. So, he tells Joe he'll trade or buy - they work it out by themselves. Perhaps Joe might even put in another knife to keep the rotation going.

Know-what-I-mean?

The reality of this thing is getting pretty scary! I may have to create a spin-off myself. DaveH = wanna collaborate?

A couple of thoughts:

I'm not really up on what is easily available for supporting this type of endevour, listserve,
EZboard etc. First I suggest we ask Spark and see
what he says, I think it would be nice to keep it on bladeforums. I'll email him in a bit.

After that, I think all it would take is someone taking the lead and setting it up. Also, remeber it's very easy to just start a new thread here.

I think 2 week time evaluation time is going in the wrong direction, it's easy enough to loose track of it in a weeks time. However, it's always worth a shot.

As far as the sales thing goes, in fact someone is interested in the centofante pass around when it's done. I think though it's a little unfair if someone wants to buy that they take it out of circulation. I'd say wait until the passaround is finished, THEN if they still want it they can buy it.

pendentive - collaboration? email forthcoming. :)

DB has a Camillus EDC, which is a knife I want to check out. Since I’m in the same state as he is, does that mean I wouldn’t be eligible for the list? One person per state seems unrealistic. Really isn’t the point of the pass around to evaluate a specific knife for possible purchase? The pass around as it is now seems quite good, unless you’re not able to get into one of the limited spots. One permanent list would mean receiving knives you have no interest in. If the whole purpose is to simply pass a knife from one state to the next I will never understand. What is the objective here?

I not sure how I can contribute but count me in, sounds like a great idea, if it wasn't for the additional postage the last leg of people would have I'd say have everyone from every state add a little something representive of each state,(like Sippin' whiskey from TN, or lobster from Maine), just kidding about the shellfish and whiskey, of course it would have to be nonperishable, and legal to mail.
:D

Whatever happens count me in:) .

I'm thinking of doing a pass around myself. I have a Spydie SS Delica plainedge and three books (Blackhawk Down, Dead Center, and Whatd'ya Mean I can't Kill'em). I was thinking about having a contest and the winner would get the books and keep the knife. When he's done with the books, he can sign his forum name inside the cover and send them on to another forumite.

Just to clarify there are several things being discussed here.

I was wondering about doing a 50 state passaround, while yes, it's probably unrealistic, it's really a segueway into the problem of large passarounds and how to get around those problems.

A permanent list was a possible way to simply the administrative time it takes to do a passaround. And yes a permament list would mean receiving some knives and individual may not have an interest in.

Hey Dave I'm sure someone mentioned it before, but how about breakin' it down to small sections like on the 50 state quarter map and doin' cells like someone mentioned, you could pick someone from each cluster to trac and manage each passaraound.

Hey Matt! When did you get back on? Welcome!

I lost contact with you after you took leave. Hope all is well!

Dan

I think y'all have come up with a pretty good idea. Its finally dawned on me with my 942 pass-around that I'm the only one involved thats not getting to fondle a new knife! You can count me in on whatever y'all decide on. I think the closed loop with everyone putting in a knife really sounds like a workable idea. I wouldn't want to run it but will definitely help. Let me know what y'all finally decide on.
