Well, it's that time of year again for State and Federal Income Taxes to consume our thoughts. So how did you do this year (actually last year)? If you're getting a refund, what knife are you going spend it on? :) If you owe Uncle Sam, what knives are you going to sell?

As for me, we're getting state and federal refunds, but none of it is going towards knives. We accumulated plenty of debt with my Mother's Alzheimer's, so we're trying to pay that down. Hope someone has a more fun use for their refund than me. :(

How did I do??? I paid thousands and thousands (and thousands) in taxes.

I only have to pay in a few hundred right now because not only do we withhold a healthy chunk from every paycheck but also because the gubmint insists that I pay thousands more in "estimated" taxes.

As close to $0 as I can make it I hate giving out zero interest loans to people who are financially irresponsible:grumpy:

Started out the year with 3 dependants and ended with none! I'll be paying on this bill for a while!!  :thumbdn: :barf:

My wife is at home at this moment, staring at the big flat-screen TV we just bought...
I'm using my refund to stimulate the hell out of the economy....

I agree, we received too much back this year and have adjusted our withholding for next. Using the refunds to pay off the debt we wouldn't have accrued if we had hadn't overpaid our taxes.

I'm going to pay somewhere between $1 -$1,000.

The more important number, of course, is what you paid for the 2009 year, overall (I'm not asking folks to post that number!!).

The Earned Income Tax Credit and our 14 month old helped us out plenty. Between state and fed, we got about 6500 dollars back.

never had a refund in my life.

Any help on all the loopholes one can do to get these massive amounts of money back?? some of the amounts I see are equal to my yearly earnings

I can't bring myself to vote in the poll.

I'll just say this. It wasn't good. Not at all.:grumpy:

LOL, when i saw the title i thought this was going to be a thread on - what you bought with the money :D

EdgePro Apex (not yet, still waiting on return)

Not good for me either... :(

Sigh.

There are a lot of us in this position.

And, with the recent push to spend ... spend ... spend, more Americans will soon be joining us.

I wonder how far this can go before the Goose stops laying golden eggs?:(

Mark, you left out an important choice!!! :D
7- Didn't even file a return!!! :p

You, my friend, are blessed beyond compare! :D My Dad always files, but really doesn't have to, since he never has to pay any taxes (below the minimum threshold).

I hate to go Dave Ramsey on anybody but for those of you who regularly get $1200+ back in taxes. Let’s do a little math you are talking $100 a month (take home not pre tax) out of your own pockets and giving it to Washington DC (aka the Black Hole) for every $1200 you get back!
I got burnt by a DUMB CPA back in 2002 to the tune of $2000 which is why I like to get a return that and my wife’s company habitually never pays enough on her withholding so I like the cushion. Otherwise I’d tweak my W4 so that my returns are as close to $0 and or maybe owe less than $1000.

stjames try doing a monthly budget on an excel spreadsheet and figure everything in. Its very enlightening I can even tell you how much my dogs cost me each per year (vet’s, groomer’s, food, etc.). First year I did one I “found” money I never knew I had.

We do not have state income tax in Alaska. I did not pay any taxes because I have six Dependants ( wife and five adopted children) and am self employed and had a lot of deductions this year.
I could have got a substantial earned income credit check but I had my tax lady work it out to where I was nearly even. We finalized two adoptions last year and there is a $12,000 credit for each of them. I could not use the credit as I did not have the liability. I believe they can be carried over but it does not look like this year is going to be much better than last.
