It doesn't matter how much I make, it's all spent; nothing would get saved if it wasn't for my 401k contributions (IRS max plus the government chips in another 5% of my salary).

If you're actually interested in my gross salary, you can look it up: I'm a GS-14, step 5 and Roanoke falls under "rest of the nation" in the salary tables.

Are you asking just my income, or my household income, which includes my wife's?

If it's just me, then 100,000 - 150,000, if it's the household income, then it's 150,000 - 200,000.

Half of that goes to taxes and gasoline up here in Canada.

Either is fine.

May I ask what your current occupation is?

So that's where my tax money goes! $15k to sit on the porch and smoke cigars... That's more than I've made most years, even working as much as possible. Some people have it made!

:D

I work as safety and rescue specialist, for a big Fortune 500 company that specializes in Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO).

Business will always be steady, as long as people keep doing dumbass things and getting hurt.

My wife is a psychologist at the local children and womens hospital.

Cool part of my job is that I get to use my blades at work, and no one bats an eye.

Our household hold income is in the $200,000 - $250,000 range depending on overtime and bonuses. I'm an engineer and my wife is a Business/Finance Manager at a large corporation.

Last year was between $70,000.00 and $80,000.00. I don't think that's bad for a first year attorney in the state of Florida. I get paid on production, and I know a lot more this year than I did last. I'm also getting a lot of repeat clients. Right now, I care more about how much I learn than I do about how much I earn. I meet with all of my clients one-on-one. I handle their cases from start to finish, and I work in a variety of different areas of law. Most importantly, I've learned how to be a lawyer which means finding my own way. I think I've done really well so far and that's reflected by my boss who now treats me like a colleague instead of a student. He definitely didn't do that in the beginnng. I love my job.

Yes, and those that have been on welfare for years also have the same effect in the other direction, but I get your point.

Not nearly as much as the effect of billionaires on the average.

Let's assume we have sample of 10. One of them is the CEO of a major company with an annual income of, say, three million dollars. One is a $50,000/year white collar worker and 8 are on welfare. Or even assume that the latter are homeless and have no real income at all.

That'd be an average income of 305,000 bucks per person, representing nobody in the sample really, while the median (despite the small sample) is accurate for most of them ($0).

Of course there are much more people who depend on welfare than there are those who earn millions, but the median is still a much better indicator.

I make 35,000 per year flipping burgers at Chili's Grill & Bar. It's a nice country!!

Wow, that's great. How many hours do you work? I still think that working in a restaurant was one of the best jobs I've ever had. I really enjoyed the camaraderie.

Wow. To be making that money in Roanoke. I'm soon to move BACK out of Roanoke due to no money in what I do. I'm making 10.50 an hour while my buddy that graduate the same time I did is clearing over 1500 every two weeks in Ohio. Both the same age with the same experience. That's Roanoke for you, now if I was a lawyer or something nice like that I would be doing great in this area.

135,000.00 with both my wife and I working for the state forestry.

income will go down somewhat in the next few years as we are both retiring soon.

I'm at a bit over 100K per year, but that's a silicon valley 100K which means it's about the same as 30K anywhere else in the world. Heck I pay nearly $600 a month on health insurance for me and my family.

With two young kids and a wife that works part time, it doesn't go very far.

l make $75,000 a year doing process and control engineering. I have almost 5 weeks of paid vacation and 11 paid holidays per year. I pay $200 per month for excellent health, dental, vision, and life insurance for my whole family. I've got a pension plan, a company-matched 401K, and a bonus plan (which was over 10% of my salary this year.) I've got a great boss, and a lot of autonomy and flexibility.

To say I'm blessed would be a major understatement. :)

If all goes well I'll be making around 40 grand soon - if I can maintain both jobs. That's not so great BUT the benefits are superb. I'm going to be in a situation similar to Senator's in some ways.

I'm single so it will be $9 a week for medical and dental coverage. Free life insurance, a pension plan, matched 401k, money for education, free internet connection, phone, the works. This is the kind of company where people are very open and connected, they'll listen to any suggestions you make and seriously consider them. There is tremendous room to grow. Working in the geek department, I get to stay up to date with the latest technology and play with it. Good stuff overall.
