CRKT Incoming CRKT M21-14DSFG , Always have wanted to try , but...

Nice comparison pics. How’s the lockup?
Out of box , really everything works fine .:thumbsup:

Good solid lock up . Nice strong detent . Perfect centering . Pretty good F&F .

The LAWKS makes for not great fidgeting , but adds some confidence for hard use / SD / survival .

It's never gonna be any serious competition for the any of the Taiwan built Cold Steel Tri-ad models , IMO , but still works for what it is .

plain edge version.
Yeah , PE would probably be better with this steel / HT .

But my whole excuse for buying this thing was the Veff .

I did test on some 250# zip ties and cardboard . Even being careful, I got some slight folding on the tips / edge of the Veff . :(

However , the Veff did sharpen up easier than any others I've used .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I bought an old beat up one years ago to do destruction tests on. I wanted to stab it through a car door. Even though I have a family member in the auto repair business, I haven't gotten a good subject to destroy yet. At some point I was looking at the lock and noticed that it would move across the surface of the blade lock surface as you pushed on the blade which didn't inspire confidence. I decided if I was going to test it in stabbing that I would have to build an auxiliary guard to protect my hand. I also have a new model that I like well enough but I wouldn't try stabbing with it. It might be good for camping and things like that.

You should check out Veff sharpening website!! I had wanted to send him something in a decent steel to add his serrations too just never got around to it n then plum forgot.. Looking at his site has rekindled that want for me now.. Just need to figure out what to send off to him!
I like the CRKT despite all the issues and I certainly eats rope no matter what crap steel it is and that was my main purpose when I got it!!
I'm happy that you are enjoying it too.

:) Cool ! Bet it's not real cheap though .

I'd send something out of very tough steel with good HT .

Not a chopping or baton knife .

Something you otherwise like enough to carry .

I just saw AG Russell is selling a bronze model in 12C27 @ 59-61 HRC !!!! Now that is tempting but no Veff serrations!!!! If it had em, me thinks I'd be.pressing add to cart...

If they came out with a slightly bigger handled version and/or better steel I'd be happy as heck. I actually like my 10yrs old M21. Next to a fixed Mora, the handle shape is the most comfortable I've ever handled...and I've had a lot of knives over the years. A lot. I wish I could find a knife with the same handle shape, just slightly bigger, but no cheer just yet. A close one is the CS Bush Ranger but the gripping area on the handle is just a hair too short.

Probably my favorite handle on a folder , but I have just small side of medium hand size .

Fits me like they made it for me , but I've heard guys with big hands say it's a tad too small .

I've got 4 Carson CRKTs:

M16-13Z
M16-14Z
M21-04G
M21-14SFG

Just bought them because they looked "bad a$$ed" especially the M21-14SFG w/the Veff serrations. The black version of the knife the OP linked at the top.

Never liked the built in "hilt" or guard of the 14SFG because it can "catch" when you carry it in your pocket and, as I recall, the lock system is kinda fiddley. So, I think this model is best carried on your belt in an aftermarket nylon sheath.

For EDC pocket carry, the smaller M16-13Z would be much better but the larger M16-14Z (tanto) or M21-04G (drop point) would also work because they don't have the "hilt" that the 14SFG does.

Quality-wise, you get what you pay for. These are "cheap" knives that use cheap parts and cheaper steel. The kind of knives I bought when I 1st started "collecting" but don't buy anymore.

Since I don't "use" any of the knives in my collection and have never used any of these, I can't say how they'd perform but I would not be surprised if any of them failed in some way in actual use.

FWIW, maybe my 10+ yr old M21 was built better back then but I've used that M21 in every way I knife should be used (not a pry bar!) and it's held up fine. Lock still works perfectly and has never failed. I did shorten the blade about 0.5" and made it a razel shape. This knife is still in my rotation along with my CS AD10, American Lawman, Spydercos and many others that all cost considerably more.

I guess they could sell toothpicks if they labeled them Special Forces...
What a SAD JOKE!
Kit Carson designs had significant impact , IMO . Wouldn't say a joke .

What CRKT does with their licenses ...could be better .

The whole military / tactical / survival marketing hype surely gets overdone, but I guess that's what sells . Works on me pretty often . :p
