Well, I found my ultimate EDC. Maybe a bucket list knife.
I have been lusting over a Duane Dwyer custom Strider for a while now. After months of reading over steel selections, I found a very rare DDC SnG in the ultimate of Cruicible super steels. CMP REX 121. This steel is ultra exotic and very few knife makers have the equipment to work with it. Edge retention is suppose to be unmatched with a RC 70. Its suppose to not chip or be brittle. It was explained to me that if M4 is a V8 Chevy, then REX 121 is a nitro fueled funny car. I am pumped. My wife doesnt understand..(Its just another pocket knife to her) so I have to tell this news to my fellow knife enthusiast.
I am planing on doing a review of the knife when I get it in my hands. I will wait for the knife till I take my pics and description. DD custom grind and steel ought to be spectacular. This baby will be no safe queen. This combo of knife/design, and steel needs to be used. The knife will be my EDC and probably field dress deer during hunting season.

Wicked! Can't wait to see the review!

How hard does DD plan to run the steel?

Sounds insane. I will look forward to your review. What's a rough time frame before you take delivery?

When it does get dull, it should be fun to sharpen (clear your calender).;)
I dont plan it ever getting dull...;) I am told by the experts that only a occasional touch up every year or longer is needed to maintain razor performance. I figured worst case, I would let Strider do it for $15.00 shipping.

I forgot to add.... The DDC SnG is a drop point blade with one of Dwyer's wicked chisel grinds. (not the nightmare). I am told by the Strider dealer that it is one of the sharpest edges he has ever seen. Like that doesnt get the juices flowing?:D

Congrats on the score. I love my DDC tanto SnG. Can we see a pic from the dealer?

Cool, do you carry your DDC SnG? My dealer pics are fair so I would perfer to take my own for the review. Should be fun and something to do in the dead of winter.
Do you have any pics of your DDC to hold me over....?

There's always a "better" steel -- always. And then there's one even better. . . .
Are you generalizing or do you know of a better steel? I have been studying my hard steels for a while and I haven't seen anything even close to REX 121 that knife makers are even considering. I have to admit, this hobbies has so many interesting technologies to read up on. I enjoy it. The thermal treatment for REX 121 is critical and labor intensive. Its just very very few custom knife makers can or have the equipment to even work with these super exotic steels now. It will be interesting to see what the custom knife world will bring us in 10 years from now and how knife makers will adapt.

"Do I carry?" Ha! Try and stop me. It rotates regularly in my EDC. I'm carrying it tonight for New Year's. Alls I got are ugly pics, sorry:

Thank goodness you are actually using yours. Striders are meant to be used.
That is a viscous looking Strider custom!! You could show that to someone that doesnt know anything about blades and they would know it is a special knife. My blade has a similar razor wire design. What steel did DD use on yours? Do I see a patina on your blade? Beautiful.

It's just the plain vanilla S30V, but it suits me fine. There's no patina. The edge and the tip are polished, that's why it looks a little different.

Sounds like a hell of a knife with a excellent steel, let me know IF you ever need sharpening ;)

I have a few striders, love them all. I have to admit im jealous of your new knife. I am one of those steel snobs, but at least I admit it. How did you find out about DD making this knife? or was it just posted for sale on a website and you got lucky? from you description it sounded like you have it on order with strider through a dealer. When are you expecting it in?

It's a two part win win. When researching Crusible steel I found the mention of how hard and costly REX 121 is to work with. I read a tech article that stated Duane Dwyer a expert knife maker and head of Strider knives was very impressed with his initial lot of this new steel. Being a Strider fan, it didnt take me long to search every Strider dealer and custom knife shop that carried Duane Dwyer's work. A lot of tech specs are not always advertised with custom Strider knives like steel. I was surprised how undocumented Strider customs knives are. Dealers dont know what or when they will get any.
They are truly like art. I poked around and found only 2 in existence currently for sale. One was a drop point with single gunner grips with a razor wire print on the blade (that's the one for me). Another dealer had a tanto point with single gunner and a different blade pattern. I wanted the drop point so I worked out a deal. FYI the DDC SnG tanto REX121 is still available.... (pm if you want the dealers name.)

If you didn't know, Duane Dwyer is more the metallurgist than Mick. You will find DDC uses much more exotic steels than Micks customs.

Congratulations on a grail steel and knife. HOLY CRAP! I was happy with my Benchmade 806M4, but I think that Rex 121 would cut through my M4. :)
Looking forward to some pictures and your review.
