My life long streak of ruining blades while attempting to sharpen a knife has been overcome. I purchased at Sharpmaker and can now shave with my Buck 110 (regular production, I'm still waiting for the CS 110). It was not this sharp when I firist bought it. This has opened up new horizons for me.

Gone are the days of feeling badly about actually using a knife because I could never sharpen it.

I use a Sharpmaker and love it...still do freehand to get the edge angle correct...then the Sharpmaker to keep it that way.

Try a leather strap(just a piece of leather on a board) to polish the edge if you like it that way.

Trax it is a crock-stick thingy:p :D :p. Preston

...Preston I've never used a Sharpmaker...Being older than dirt and not having those "high-tech" sharpeners available when I started sharpening knives, I started with benchstones and worked "up" to a Lansky and then to an EdgePro...Been thinking about a Sharpmaker to fine tune 'em quickly when they need it. My concern has been the tips of the knives...Mine are sharp like needles and I'd hate to lose that tip. Doesn't the Sharpmaker tend to take that "tip" away during use??...

Darryl, if the user is careless when using the edges of the Sharpmaker's stones the tip can be rounded off. I try to stay away from the tip when using the edges of the stones and make sure that I get the tip on the flats of the stones. Works for me.

I'm also in that older than dirt era and have used bench stones until early last year and wanted to try the Sharpmaker...gave me an excuse to drive up to Golden and visit Spyderco:D...no plant tour:grumpy:, but really helpful people in the store and good display of their wares. Preston

...Thanks Preston...Just might have to give those "crock-stick thingies" a try...:)
