Ditto on the price, but i too am strangely attracted to this knife in spite of myself...lol. Not so much my taste but very interesting and well executed.:D

20" long and almost 1 cm thick? Must've been a pretty huge billet to start. I'd love to see some pics of his shop - if he's making damascus like that I'd bet he has a mother of a powerhammer!

I do agree with others that the price looks very high relative to what else one could buy in custom knives with $4500. Like, say, a nice engraved damascus Fisk. With an ergonomic handle. And a guard! ;)

For that price he could have at least gotten out all the hammer marks/divots out of the blade!

When I was at the Pasadena Expo this weekend a VERY well known and sought after ABS MS made the same comment about another Strider creation very similar to this one, which was on the table I was watching for a bud.

Just imagine what $4500 could get you from Dean, Fisk, Newton, Hancock, Fuegen, JD Smith. Even Fogg.

Not to mention Cashen, Knight, Foster, Vince Evans, and the list goes on.

Lets get back to reality, shall we?

I do think it is one of Srider's better looking efforts though.

Judging from the handle pics the front piece of stag looks like it is just a bolster that the cord is attached to. It's held on with one pin and the cord is wrapped up against it. The rear piece

looks like it was a deer tine that he split and put one piece on either side. The handle tapers from the rear to the front. He could have at least used a whole piece of stag!

I haven't yet spent $4.5k on a single knife. This one aint gonna change that.

It will be very interesting to see how a knife such as this will hold it's value over time...

Hi Chuck

That is by design and how he makes them. If you look back on many of the CUSTOM KNIVES that Mick makes, he does that often. Sort of his style.

See you tomorrow at the show!

Hi Chuck

Sorry, but the handle material is not stag- it is FOSSIL WALRUS IVORY.

So are the beads.

Thanks for posting in this thread and see you tomorrow at the show. (Maybe tonight at the hotel?)

Sorry to disappoint you, Roger- but this one is already SOLD.

Best regards, Neil

PS- Due to the value, I offered the buyer free shipping!

Neil,

I'm not Chuck:D;):D.

As an avid buyer, admirer, and student of forged blades....I can tell you, that if it IS Mick's style to leave fairly deep divots in the flats....he should re-think this approach.

Many smith's leave hammer marks or other aesthetic styling points on their blades, but none are intended to compromise the integrity of the blade's strength and function....this treatment appears to...it says "stress riser" to me in a big way, and said so to the ABS MS that made the comment at Expo(who by the way, is old school, and had no knowledge of Strider whatsoever).

Best Regards,

Hm... I wonder what you would say about this:

not to mention this:

Interestingly enough, I once spent $4.5k on a piece. It was a Don Fogg quasi Celtic sword I bought at the Reno show. Personally, I like it much better than Mick's piece...

Joss,

Nice - maybe you should start a new thread to show off all your beautiful knives. Do you own any Striders?

Here are a few more of MICK STRIDER'S CUSTOM KNIVES- all sold so not for sale.
