So yesterday I walked into a little outdoors store located in a small four store strip mall not far from my home. This guy has some new stuff but most of his wares are used gear in really good condition and NOS he has acquired. He also carries all the slipjoints and sheath knives he can find along with new Opinels, Mora's and the like. I have bought a ton of old Case, Schrade, Imperial and such from him many times paying a few dollars to much but I don't mind because he's a nice guy with a cool little store and these kind of places are quickly becoming extinct so if I can be a little part of keeping the doors open by sometimes paying a little more I am happy to do so. Well yesterday I spotted what appeared to be a never used or sharpened Hess Pioneer in buckeye burl. Now I have never owned a Hess but have looked at them enough to know they are $100 or so new and have read several threads that have been positive for quality. So I asked the price expecting to hear around $100 but he replied he had found it in a large box he bought and would take $20. I told him it was worth at least $75 but he said no it was basically a freebie for him and $20 was fine so I bought it.

How about telling us about great deals you have gotten I would really like to hear about them and I'm sure others would as well.

Very cool randy! i thought for a moment you had finally gotten that boker 494!
for me i wouldnt say its an incredible deal, but in my high school years, there was a dealer who couldve gotten me a benchmade 43 balisong, my favorite of the series for around $350. he was known to over charge, but since this was hs, I didnt have the money any way, couldnt buy it. Do we consider balisongs traditional here? technically not a slip joint knife, but I think balisongs predate slipjoints...

Man, thats a great looking knife Randy. I picked these up Thursday. I don't know if it qualifies as an incredible deal but I didn't mind paying the 15 bucks for them.

very cool deal - especially pointing out how much he was undercharging.
things like that tell a lot about a person.

nice scores for both of you!

I consider this one a "find" though not a deal per se. I bought this 2006 Case Barlow new in box from a local Case Platinum dealer in 2013 that had been sitting on his shelf for all that time. Paid a typical retail price for it of around $55 at the time. But I was still pleased to find an older knife like that still in retail inventory.

Here was a great deal that was discovered by me right here on this forum. Another member put a post up about the Task Force Dagger Foundation offering these knives for $25 plus shipping. I imagine they would normally fetch anywhere from $125 to $175 at normal retail stores. These were a steal of a deal, and all the proceeds went for a good cause. Seems the TFD Foundation were donated these by Ontario Knife Company to help their cause... So the TFD Foundation sold them extremely cheap, since they paid nothing for them. It was a win win win situation! ☺👍

Btw, I wound up ordering three. I gifted one to a friend, the other two reside in my collection 👍

I have found the 494 Jack but not purchased it yet. It's on that big auction site but doesn't end for 3 days and 3 hours. So far I am the only bidder but have made a large enough maximum bid that I think I'll win it but if I have to I will bid more. It is being sold as a 30 year old plus safe queen that has never been used, carried or sharpened and from the pictures that appears to be true.

I would definitely call that an incredible deal Gasman. Great score on some fine cutlery. I really like the finger groves on that Schrade.

$31.99 at the Zone 6 PX at Camp Arifjan, KU. Yep, a zero was missing. 32 bucks! There were tree. A bubby bought all three. A coworker brought it back for me a couple of weeks ago. CRK GB 5.5".

Too big and heavy for me. Was going to use it as trading material, but I think I'll give it away. Have it narrowed down to a couple of people.

WOW Leghog I just thought I got a great deal. A CRK Green Beret for $32 is more like winning the lottery.

good luck! hope you win it bud!

There were three, and Johnie bought all three.

A $1000 worth of knives for a $100 That must be the deal of a lifetime. I have always wanted a CRK fixed blade but can no longer justify the cost because being disabled the only outside things I can do anymore is pond side fishing in a lawn chair or campground camping in a rented camping cabin. But they are awesome.

You sure it's real? I don't know youknowwhat from shinola, but there are some fake CRKs out there.

With AAFES? Doubt it. I can recall an AAFES Omega grey market watch debacle.

Regardless, everyone who has seen one or more says they're real.

Thank you sir. I must admit however that I was not familiar with the "Golden Spike" when I found it. But I'm a SUCKER for a carbon steel blade. :)
