Incredible eagle vs. fox pics

That fox is lucky that eagle did not get his talons into him.. One of the favorite tactics of eagles to to snatch and drop their prey from the air.. I saw an eagle do this to a cat one day. The cat went nuts and when the eagle had that cat about 40-50 feet up he just dropped it.. Swung around, picked up the cat and flew of..
Great pics..

So is that a young golden eagle? I never see those in the Northwest.

From the link that Pritch posted above (where I found that I had been too gullible in believing these were taken by my friend), this golden eagle was in South Finland.

Remarkable photos, in any case.

Wow, that's the first time I've seen this set. Great stuff, whoever took the pics had a lucky find :)

I love this set of pictures, thanks for reviving them.

I think part of what caught my eye with the pics, and perhaps may have inspired my friend to represent them as his, was that a couple of years ago I was fortunate enough to have snapped some pics of an osprey eating a catfish on a stump in my back yard. We live on the bank of the Red River, and see a fair amount of wildlife even though we're in the middle of town.

Here's one of the osprey, and a close up of the same photo.

That same stump has highlighted many of my backyard pics. Sadly it was torn out by the large ice chunks that occurred in last year's spring breakup:

This is my first time seeing these amazing pics. Reguardless of Who took them, they are amazing. Nature In Action.

golden eagles are the biggest killer of young foxes, yearlings are not safe. There is not many things that can catch them.
never seen those pics before.

Hey---wait a minute... I've seen those pics of the osprey and catfish on snopes years ago!

Just fun'n with you, Walkabout. :)

Nice pics, btw.

Oh well..regardless of where they came from I enjoyed them, and had never seen them before. I have seen foxes and hawks go "arguing" over carcasses here before but never carried a camera with me back then. I was working...it was in my trapping days as a teen. I believe the fox left but have a hard time believing the "un-hurt" part...birds of prey are not known for their gentle natures.

:):)

I actually worried that someone might think that... I have to admit that's part of the reason I included a couple of other pics of the same stump in our yard (or in the river, depending on the time of year).

We are very fortunate to be living here. Yesterday there was a great horned owl in a tree on the riverbank... I was a little worried that he had his eye on our small dog

Last year there were a bunch of geese doing a funky dance on the river ice:

We've had bald eagles (as recently as 2 weeks ago), fox, deer, beaver, and there's a woodchuck who hangs around under our deck in the summer, driving our dog crazy :)

The osprey let me slowly walk to within about 30 feet as I madly clicked photos. I've had my eye on a more powerful telephoto lens (my current one is a very nice 85mm f1.4 prime lens for my Nikon D70s), but it would mean selling a couple of knives for the cash... and I have my priorities :)
