I'm part-way through the book 'Miracle in the Andes: 72 Days on the Mountain and My Long Trek Home', a memoir by Nando Parrado, co-authored by Vince Rause. Holy crap, what a survival story. It's about that South American rugby team whose plane crashed in the Andes in 1972 (it was the subject of the book and the movie 'Alive.'). Parrado is the guy who led a small group out of the mountains, found civilization, and lead the rescue team back to the rest of the group. Anyway, incredible story. And it's very well told. I can't recommend it enough to anyone interested in 'against all odds' stories.

Tough situation to be in. Those calories from eating deceased members of the party definitely made it possible for them to hike out and rescue everyone else. I think the pope absolved them of cannibalism, if I remember correctly.

I remember reading "Alive" back when I was a teenager; Nando Parrado is a name that has always stayed in my mind as one of the true 'hard' men on the planet. He is a model of the "possible" and his tactics should never be minimalized or vilified.

Misanthropist that was a good one lol.. Just watch out that they wont be hungry or you might never have a long one to share no more...lol
