Incredibly Rare 130 Year Old Barlow

That's a fascinating knife for sure. I'm interested to hear what some of our knife makers think of it also. This gives us some insight into the construction process, etc.

Wow guys, thanks for everyones kind comments, they are much appreciated. I love this knife, may be ugly in its unfinished state but what a great link to early American Barlow history and the influence of the English cutlers.

Now to break out the sander and buffer and get this sucker finished.:D

I would be tempted to do the same thing. Is that a scratch on the blade that runs down the blade or a crack? That may be why it was unfinished. I like the idea of letting a museum display it. I wish I had done that when I had the Samuel Barlow years ago.
 
What an amazing find, Augie! I really have nothing more to add that hasn't already been said. You DO find the nicest knives, congrats!
