That's a fascinating knife for sure. I'm interested to hear what some of our knife makers think of it also. This gives us some insight into the construction process, etc.

I would be tempted to do the same thing. Is that a scratch on the blade that runs down the blade or a crack? That may be why it was unfinished. I like the idea of letting a museum display it. I wish I had done that when I had the Samuel Barlow years ago.Wow guys, thanks for everyones kind comments, they are much appreciated. I love this knife, may be ugly in its unfinished state but what a great link to early American Barlow history and the influence of the English cutlers.
Now to break out the sander and buffer and get this sucker finished.![]()
