Incredibly stupid question about a knife material no one seems to use...

"Zirconium is found in abundance in S-type stars, and has been identified in the sun and meteorites. Analysis of lunar rock samples obtained during the various Apollo missions to the moon show a surprisingly high zirconium oxide content, compared with terrestrial rocks."

I like it already !!

Well Gentelmen, I am indeed sorry that you all took offence to that. But one must agree that he is not currently the most loved political leader right now.

He is costing your country large ammounts of money, ressources and man power including lives (God bless and protect every service men and women regarless of nation that is fighting for a just cause) for a fight that is no longer clear to you the American people or us the rest of the citizens of the free world.

I have no clue what you mean by Québec thing. If you are refering to the separtion of that Province from the rest of the country they are more then welcome to try I do not live there nor do I want to or plan too.

Our exchange rate is great right now no problems there it is stronger then it has been 10 years and there is no sign of it comming back down for the moment.

Like you said we will leave the political discusions for an other forum.

The liberal media would like you to believe that ordinary people don't understand or support the ongoing military actions. That is simply not true. Many many of us understand very clearly that it is vitally important for us to finish what we've started.

Sometimes, when water causes rot in a building, a shoddy repairman will simply plaster over it and hope that nobody notices. Actually fixing the problem would be time-consuming and expensive. Applying a bit of plaster looks fine. Everyone will say, "Ah, good job. You fixed that," at least until the building collapses from the problem that was concealed for a quick fix instead of properly repaired.

Our previous president was a real good one for plastering over problems and applying quick fixes intended to just a few years. The plaster has recently crumbled and fallen off the quick fix he applied to North Korea, for example, and we can now see under the cover of that plaster, the rot has spread and now the whole region is on the verge of collapse.

That's what happens when practice to plaster over problems instead of spending the time and the money to actually fix them. If W! wanted to, he could apply some plaster to Iraq and we'd be out of there in a few quick months. But, in a few years that plaster would crumble and fall off and we'd see rot spread everywhere. Unlike Clinton, W! isn't going to do that. He's committed and he's going to stay the course, as painful, unpopular, and expensive as it might be. He's going to do the very best he can to actually fix the problems instead of just covering them up.

I believe that the majority of Americans understand that and support it. I believe that the majority of Americans want to fix this problem and fix it right. They understand that that will take time and be expensive. But it's got to be done.

Alright time to step off the political issues...i want some more info on tantalum if it really is harder than Ti? and would Zirconium just be used to make an alloy for its rust proofing or could a blade actually be made out of it?

To whoever posted about DU weight, your sense of scale is off. Uranium is on the order of ony twice as heavy, not ten times as heavy, but it would still be out of balance for a knife blade.

On a slightly serious note, I'm not sure where you would buy the stuff! I've never seen it at Home Depot and there isn't a DU R US in my phone book.

...but then a guy I went to high school with and was a guard at one of our "solid fuel propellant" plants in this country, wasn't supposed to have a "golf ball" sized piece of the solid fuel either. He rolled it out into a thin rope, about 4 feet long, coiled in his charcoal grill, piled charcoal on it, and lit it (from afar)! There was a huge flash and when he regained his eyesight, all his cold charcoal was sitting on the ground along with the bottom of his grill. It acted like det cord and just cut a hole in the metal the size of a hubcap.

Depleted uranium is radioactive of course, but not "glow in the dark with a faint hum" radioactive....still, its specific activity is about half that of naturally occuring Uranium. The US military guys don't treat this stuff as highly radioactive. They do wear heavy gloves carrying it around, but it isn't like they keep it where superman can't see it.

See this for responses to fires and contaminations. As to where to get it, that is obvious if you have friends who are "users" in the military.

Best

True enough but they do not cary the thing in there pocket all day long eighter. If we are talking about making a blade for an EDC. Odds are that after a while could be years you would develop radiation possoning. As to the true edge holding abilities off the stuff I guess we will never know or not until someone comes up with a way to render the stuff radiation free or a cure for radioative possoning.

It is clear enough to me that the solution is to get some and give it to Harley. He'll make a knife with it. Then we'll know.

George W. not the most popular leader? I think he's doing a great job. I'll be pleased if he is re-elected. No he isn't an elite intellectual (and neither am I) but I happen to like what he's done so far.  :) ;) :p
