I know most on here have seen my Dumpster Mutt before but I just thought this is worth saying.
I had kinda fell out with this knife recently and had taken to using some others for hiking just allowing this one out when I felt like battoning some kindling without worry of damaging a knife. And that is exactly the purpose of this blade.....it is just impossible to damage !!!
Yeah ok you could take a hammer to it and maybe inflict some serious scars but if you are gonna use it as a tool should be used then it is as near to indestructible as a knife can get !!!!

Here is some kindling I made today and that is my batton leant up against it, now I ain't exactly a small dude and I was using as much power as I could when smashing the blade with the batton.

There are a few paint scuffs now but absolutely zero edge damage ever !

This spine is designed to take some serious impact !!!!

So if you have all the nice scandi cutters etc and just want the toughest knife money can buy for making kindling etc when you don't want to be lugging an axe around then grab one of these !!!!

I'm the same way with my heavily modified Greco MSC. I just beat on it and I think it laughs. Now that you have a few marks on it ya won't feel bad if/when you want to convex it! Be like an F-1 on steroids.

BTW it is confidence inspiring to be able to do a knife this way ain't it? I think so...

Yeah your dead right bro ! When it's picked up some more scuffs and the like I might strip it and give it a convexed edge !!!;)

I'd recommend. My yard keeper is stripped, had a very acute flat grind thats becoming convexed and it's ridiculous. Though with a much finer edge I have noticed some nicks here and there, go to fine and you'll loose the claim to invincibility.

I know alot of people don't like the thick blades but, I'm pretty sure the great majority of the people that frequent this site always have more than 1 knife. I spend a tremendous amout of time in the outdoors during the fall and winter in Michigan and I ALWAYS have my Swamp Rat HRLM that I worked over with an Edgepro. With a 17 or 18 degree primary and a 12 or 14 degree microbevel this thing will cut like theres no tomorrow AND I can still pound it through a tree if need be. On top of that I always have a SAK with me (usually a farmer). Hard to imagine a situation that can't be handled by those 2 knives (unless you count something that should require an axe).

I use my Battle Mistress for splitting. Thats most of its use. Its really great at it too.

Bingo. Diversity is a good thing. I usually carry 3...

Funny you should make this post now, as I was battoning my little scandi cutter through a good log of hard maple I said to the guys when I took this pics "this ones for pitdog":)

1/8 thick 1075 , and still hair poppin..

I will say a thicker spine makes splittin much easier, I basiclly had to hammer it through to the end, but it worked

beating on knives is almost as fun as making them,

And yours look far more pretty than mine, thanks for the pic !!!;)

Right on bro, my Yard Hook is about as well used as your DMCG.
My only damage on it is major dents in the spine from batoning with hammers and rocks, even manged to take a chip out of the spine.
I did dent the edge up alittle to, although I put it through serious use.
My favorite user, my old faithfull. :D

That was one thing i liked about the F1, thick spine for splitting, but still a nice convex edge. But I was worried the stainless might snap on me from batoning.

some knives give confidence which is a big plus to me.

so Pitdog when are you going to do a head to head test of the DM vs. a scandi and see what is overall better? i'm not talking just abusive tasks but everything one might do with a knife while camping.

i did this for myself between a large chopper and a hawk. i found the hawk to chop much more efficiently but obviously it wouldn't do other work with a darn. i carry a smaller knife anyway so of late i have left the big chopping knives at home and just took a small knife and hawk.

it makes for a nice combo for camping but if i am going to do some hiking i leave the hawk and take a more substantial knife. everything has a place depending on what you are doing imo.

Pitdog - I love those character marks on that knife of yours. That is a user my friend!

PD, I feel the same way about my bk7...Usually that and a necker or dtout folder and a multi tool and I'm good to go for a couple days.

DMCGs are awesome, I love mines.

Convex it and it's a cutting machine!

Convexed by Ban.

i will have to go with my carbon 5 recon scout as the most indistructable knife. ive done everything with mine and it just keeps going.wish they still made the carbon 5 models i would certainly buy another.
