"Index Lock" from Kindred Knives in their Alter Folding Knife ???

Is anyone else keeping up with this? Saw a video this weekend where the guy was describing his take on a full redesign of the Omega spring. No more hair thin skinny piano wire. It looks much thicker and far more robust. Looked like it was wedged in place between the outer and inner sections of the scale to hold in place.

I'd say it should be better but I've also had the spring in a Leek's spring fail so just making a spring thicker doesn't mean it's unbreakable. Not sure this is truly better or not. But it's fascinating to see further attempts at upgrades.

From their website they're calling it an Index lock but I think it's fairly new so maybe the name has changed a few times?

No that other picture is good, looks pretty much like a Manix lock.
 
If it's just a coil spring instead, that's already been done by Spyderco, Microtech, etc.

I think but won't swear that it's still a crossbar but I assume with something holding the coil spring against it. Maybe some kind of stirrup shaped part.

Yeah , just uses a coil spring vs Omega type . Not a bad idea . But Spyderco Ball Bearing Lock has this and more ! Manix 2 :cool: 🐥

Magnetic scales for them that need that . :confused:
 
I think you are talking about TJ Schwarz new knife dropping tomorrow. The Enduro.
 
TJ’s math is correct. It will be a nicer lock. The most force on the crossbar will be in the fully open and fully closed positions with the spring completely relaxed.

The omega springs have the lesser force in the open/closed positions, fully relaxed.

Looked this up last night and maybe it was too late when I was looking these up. Yeah, I saw both of of these and my sleepy addled brain merged them both into one a day later. Now I see there's also the "Schwarz Enduro" that uses a new take on the Omega spring that's thicker while the Kindred Alter is a coil spring. Either way, both seem like superior designs assuming they work as said.

Both look like cool new takes on the crossbar lock. What an inventive age we live in for knives!

I actually miss the days when that was a more common stereotype. Used to visit now and then but not for many years now. As in back when we didn't even need passports to go back and forth and the pocket change was just ignored as universal.

And hey, I was wrong just minutes ago! I bet I'll be wrong about something else today!!!
