Just saw on CNN that an Indian Airlines flight had been hijacked. No details available but my guess is some mideast terrorists are at it again.

This is a flight routinely taken by my brother-in-law who does a lot of trading between Delhi and Nepal. Hope he was not on this one.

What a Christmas gift!

:
There has been a lot in the paper here warning North Americans to be careful And observant.
The airport here has upped security 50%.

Last summer in the water Reservor about 2 miles fom our house some idiot dumped a bunch of munitions. There were hand grenades, some mortars and several
thousand rounds of ammo.
The reservor is a popular place for fishing and for the walkers. The city of Tulsa closed it down to public access for several months and just recently opened it to the public again.Automobile traffic to the one parking lot convenient to people who want to fish has not been reopened.

The city also closed it to public access during Desert Storm and there was talk of closing it after the Oklahoma City Bombing of the Federal Building.

There are too many crazies out there anymore.
A very good reason to walk around carrying.

Khukuri FAQ

My thoughts are with you and your family, Uncle Bill. I hope your brother-in-law is safe.

Per the late edition of the SF Examiner, the highjackers have killed four hostages. They tried to divert to Pakistan, successfully brought it to India and then (after the killings?) got permission to land in Pakistan.

Sounds like it's related to the never-ending India vs. Pakistan squabbles. If so, they shouldn't have a lot of interest in any Nepalese citizens on board.

It also doesn't *seem* to be linked to any anti-US sentiment, not directly.

The plane just arrived in Afghanistan after a long stay in Dubai. 20+ women and children were released, but the hijackers haven't yet identified themselves or made any demands. Hopefully nobody will get hurt.

It's coming out that one of the hijackers is brother of a Pakistani/Kashmiri militant held in prison in India.

For what it's worth, one report states the hijackers have a rifle, a grenade, and several "nepalese fighting knives".

Nepal is conducting an investigation on how the weapons got by security.
