Indian George's Hammer is coming soon...

Rob: It will just make the forges run hotter. I can shut off the blowers.:D :D :D It is going out to sea, THANK GOD.

Guys,

I'm a perfect candidate to be at this hammer-in. My problem is I enlisted two months ago (before I knew about this event) and paid my dues for the ABS hammer-in in NY the following week.

Add into that a BIG gala 60th B'day bash for one of my closest friends on Sunday, I work on Sat---and so, I'm out. :(

In time I'll have the chance to meet you folks. I'm just a collector-turned-hobbiest for now. I will tip my hand a bit to say that I was invited to spend a day at George Dailey's shop a week ago. What an eye opener! (And we started a folder project.) You'll hear of my trials. George and I belong to the TKCL maillist.

I'm not a frequent poster around these parts (I can only do so much, and I put time as a Moderator in the CKD), but I come in and enjoy all the posts from this group often. It's all good!

See ya soon!

You guys have a great time! I wish I could make it but you guys are a bit far away for me. Take lots of pictures. I would love to try grinding on Rob's new rotary platten, it looked sweet at Blade.

Coop: George D. is a member of the club. He is really good friends with Gary (wolf) Rua and I have also been to his shop. So what is the big secret. I'll have Gary call him to spill the beans. :) :) :) Then you will be busted. Do you have plans to join NECKA???

Guys: His name is Jim Cooper and he is from Conn. He was over Dailey's last Sunday. Jim just checking to make sure you are not a BS'er

...Im WAY outclassed in that pic by my pretty wife! :) I'm busted already!!!

George, to answer your last question, I'd be happy to join the NECKA. I'll go through the process this week.

As for being 'secretive', I'm really just being courteous or respectful to George. Here's why: Last June I posted pics and a bio on BF about a great Chris Reeve knife that was shown and offered by a local purveyor. A simple and positive post that I thought might even help him sell this knife. Harmless....

I got a call at 10pm one night from him, and in a courteous, but FIRM voice, he asked me NEVER to use his name on the internet without his permission again. Talk about backing off!

I'm always the first one to post and offer praise when due. But I haven't talked about my weekend with George on any public forum but this one. George keeps a low profile and I respect that. I don't want any late-night calls again!

Please give him a shout. He'll ascertain of my 'BS'ing... :D ;) BTW--my OWN knife is now framed-up and needs bolsters, grinding, lock work and, more. But it's a gem! A return trip is being planned....

Thanks for the poke!

Coop

Hey Coop, say the word and i'll give George a poke of my own Saturday at the hammerin...:D :p :p :p he deserves it once and awhile;) :p

It over and done with, a hell of a good time. Rob Frink walked away with a billet of cable damascus that he made and a mess of good old Portuguese food and some heat treating relish.
Yep, he left Jim Siska and me a little bit poorer too, those rotary platens just looked to good.

Glad you guys had a good time. I made sure nobody at my job did. I look forward to hearing all about it and I guarantee you'll see me at the next one. See you in E. Windsor.

Well, I'm bummed that I couldn't make it too, but in the end I made the right choice. My son is a high school senior and a captain of the football team and the first game of the season was yesterday. When I told him that I wasn't going to be there he said it was no big deal, there will be other games. But I could tell he was hurt. What a game it turned out to be! I'm really glad I stuck around to see him make the first sack of the season and many other great plays as he and his teammates squeeked out a victory. :) But I'm regretting not getting out to New Bedford. :(

Well, I've just about recovered from George's Hammer-in. I don't like to drive distances anymore – but this was worth the trip. Demos by Gary Rua, John Frankl, Jim Siska and Rob Frink kept us all pretty occupied (when we weren't eating).

Some random interesting moments: the slice the full beer in one swipe demo and seeing the effects from someone taking a (small) bite out of one of George's peppers…..

I came away with a really full stomach and a lot of new knowledge under my belt. In particular, I want to thank George for being such a great host, those who demonstrated for sharing their knowledge. Joe's wife for providing some amazing food, and Rob Frink for making the trip out from Ohio – it was well worth the trip as he picked up several more customers. I predict he will have a strong presence in New England in the near future.

Coming from someone who does not join too many organizations, I would encourage any of you out there to join NECKA and come to our future events – you can't miss…

Take it easy,

Bob
