indian kitchens

Came across this while hiking around today. Indians ground up eggcorns and other stuff in these.The stone house was an old bootleggers place from the early 1900;s. The indians also built the rock wall. They were used for corrals. There's a few miles of these rock walls on the ranch. Rough work.

Thanks for the pics of the grinding sites :thumbup:

We have similar significant sites where our indigenous peoples ground the grain they had harvested. Some was stored, with the rest made into "cakes" and roasted on the embers.

Out of curosity, were the original stone pestle still in the area?

The second pic had a stone in one of the holes, and it fit well but is broken. I'll hunt around the area and look for one.
 
Awesome photos, I bet you have a really great place to poking around with things like that to find and explore.

The last picture with the antlers made me think of pictures taken from horseback with the horses ears in the bottom of the pic. You weren't riding the deer were you? lol
