I had to go to Denver this week and had most of a day to myself, so I headed to the Indian Peaks Wilderness in Colorado (just south of Rocky Mountain National Park). First pics are around 8,000'. Other pics are between 10 and 11,000'. I hiked around Brainard and Long Lake (I think).

Slideshow is here (brought my cheapy digital; at least that's my excuse)...

Colorado sure is beautiful. Thanks for sharing. See any mtn lions? I guess not since your around to post:D

Can't say that I saw a mountian lion, although I was looking. Saw some elk tracks, squirrels, chipmunks, and surprisingly very few birds - a couple stellar jays and a crow. Very surprised by the lack of birds even where the spruces were thick. Maybe this is typical - don't know as I am not familiar with this part of the world.

The kit is a Maxpedition Waterbottle holder with SS Bottle, Cup, Emergency Bivy, SAK, Whislte, First Aid Kit, Compass, and bandana. Attached to the water bottle holder is a Janus Pouch with a Integral Design 8x5 Poncho/Tarp. On the other side is a Roly Poly Pouch. Peace, Chris

Birds are gone. The louder conspicuous ones take off towards the end of summer. I no longer wake up to a yard full of singing birds. Most of the migratory birds stay until the young can fend for themselves and then bolt.

You didn't say what the knife is.........:D

That is a really cool set up with the hooked up maxpedition modules. Excuse the dumb question, but is that a buttpack or do you wear it over the shoulder. I couldn't see the straps well enough to figure out how it is carried. Could you get another Janus pouch attached to the other side if you wanted to?

Looks really cool just wanted to know how it feels during carry. I like it alot!

Ahhh, makes sense on the birds ~ guess I used to some songs birds hanging around here in the east.

Knife is Bark River Mini Canadian. Thanks!

It is rather odd. I grew up in the midwest. Only in the past month have I noticed the lack of birds. It is very quiet as you say.

Shoulder carry. I am not built well for a fanny pack, or backpack for that matter. You could put another Janus pouch on the other side. So far the rolly polly has worked well as I can throw in a camera, binocs and energy bars if I go for the whole day. Or, if I am with the kids, I throw a collapisble 1 liter platypus for extra water. For weather, I carry my wool jacket over the whole thing. Poncho serves as shelter or rain/wind jacket for layering.

If you use this setup and are bending over to climb or whatever, it is extremely helpful to put a little cordage on the D-rings and fasten around your waist - if you don't it will sling around on you.

Here is the rolly polly open...

Almost forgot. The Maxpedition stuff is great ~ however, thier shoulder strap is very noisy, recommend using something else.

Beautiful pics and it looked like a great hike. Thanks for sharing them.
