I am looking for an in expensive knife use for hunting and outdoor work. I was thinking about the cold steel bowie bushman or some thing around that price range. Also if you guys could also give me a review of the bushman or the knife you recremendied that would be nice.

If you can swing $100 or so I would recommend looking at one of the custom knife makers that prowl around on this site.....three great ones that come to mind are: Charlie Ridge, Breeden, or Koyote. I don't have one of each, but have heard really great things about all three.

The bushman is a bit big for hunting, well specifically for skinning. It's a bit light for chopping even though it can do it, just doesn't have any heft to it. The new Roach Belly would be a better all around "hunting" knife. I have one and it feels like it would make a good skinner, even for larger game. As for a larger knife, if you need it for clearing shooting lanes and such, it would be hard to beat a 12" tramontina. I just recently got one and am amazed at it's cutting ability. Went through a 2 1/2" sappling today with 3 swings. Quite impressive for a machete that costs less than $10.

You should check out Marbles classic line. --they are US made and are great carbon steel (though the specific one escapes me right now)

The price of the knives is really down because the line is mostly from China and people don't know what is good and what is not. They still make some fine knives...and there are a bunch out there.

check out trackofthewolf . com, they have some handmade knives that look very well suited for hunting and gereral knife tasks, plus, they are only around $25-$30.

also, check out ragweedforge . com. tons of great values on their, specifically mora of sweden.

Get the Mora 2000. It's around thirty bucks and will out cut most 100.00 knives. Also as someone said, there are some good knife makers here. The ones mentioned and don't forget JK Knives.

a carbon steel mora clipper can be had for 10.00 bucks, it is one of the best values in the knife market, it takes a razor's edge, and as long as you don't plan on splitting any logs with it, it should last you a lifetime.

+1 on the Mora (I like the clipper) carbon steel ! With all the $$$ you saved on the Mora you can also get yourself a 12" Tramontina Machete
With these 2 blades you could do pretty much anything you need ;)
