Son is 8 yrs old. I gave him a sog revolver and it is WAY too big. we were doing some fireskills yesterday and he couldnt handle the sog. Let him use my Gossman PSK Jr and BINGO...he got it down. DONT want to spend that much on a knife for him. Something around $15-$20 would be ideal. Lemme know whatcha think.

Need a handle about the size of the PSK JR
around 1/8th inch thick for sturdiness (he is a rough and tumble boy ya know)
sheath
prefer a high carbon but a good ss w/ a squared spine will work (he has a scout firesteel)
thanks

Basically want an inexpensive PSK JR lol

Have you looked into a Mora? It may be on the larger side. But you could always get one with a wooden handle and carve it down some to fit his hand better.

+1 on the mora - buddy of mine bought his boy a Brusletto Baldur as a first knife.

balder is looking good. im a fan of Brusletto as well. and the price is right. thanks

Mora's are too big. they do have a child sized carving knife tho...decisions decisions...

thanks...open for more as thye come

I would probably need to make a finger guard for the balder. should be an ez mod...easier than taking an 8 yr old to the ER for stitches :)

right size, finger guard, right width, BECKER, etc

The Becker definitely sounds good. I carried a Becker Necker for years, and it was (and remains) a reliable knife.

Since it's for your son, have you considered making a project out of it and going for a kit knife? There are a number of kit blades out there that fit your specs, and putting a handle on a blade / forming a sheath could be a great father-son project (see for ex. this kit, or this one )

All the best,

- Mike

+1 on the Mora. If (when) he loses it, who cares, just buy another one...

Send me an email, I might just have something "laying around", collecting dust.
