Hey those look familiar....oh yeah, I made them.
Thanks Roger for posting them pics and for the recomendations!

hso...not sure what you call inexpensive, but check out these mini-tac Stingers by Kathleen Tomey (not far from you in GA). $175 for the small ones. She seems nice (I have e-mailed her) and has worked with other well-known makers.

I haven't handled one, but they look great and I am seriously thinking about putting in an order.

Good luck finding one...JT

I met with Kathleen at the blade show, and she IS a very nice person. We got to talk a lot about knives (her knives), how she got started, her teacher, etc. Again, VERY nice woman.

I handled her Tac series (the small and the large one), and I was amazed at how comfortable it felt. The handle is a bit too thick for me, but she explained that she wanted to build a knife that's small, strong, and you know that "it's there" when you need it. The handle is designed to create a safer condition when uing the knife. I understand what she means, and I totally agree with her.

The craftmanship is beautiful. She does her knives very neatly. When I inspected her knives, I could not find any single flaws. Perfect !!

Mike, check out the Jones Brothers.
Excellent prices on excellent knives, their website is in my sig line.
Gotta say, this question is a surprise coming from you.

RogerP,
That is a very nice knife. That first one you posted. The one with the forged bolster. Well I assume its forged. Would you know what kind of steel he used on that one? Thanx.

Hi Epsilon,

Yep, that's a nice little forged integral. I believe the steel is 01, but I'm sure Ron will correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers,

Roger

Bob Dozier does a fine knife as we all know. I really like the straight personal as my EDC. Blade length is approx 2&7/8"-ish. Very "big" knife in a small package.

For the price I'd go with Dozier, too. Makes a great knife for the money. Actually, he makes a great knife - period!

One of the best values I have ever seen in the small fixed blade custom market is Wayne Hendrix. He offers an amazing value for the quality of work he is producing. I bought 5 at Blade in Atlanta, and haven't even thought about selling one yet. They are truely keepers.

Another maker I have a small knife like this from is a forum member named Brett Bennett. I met Brett a while back and got 2 fixed blades from him. Not too long ago, I got talking with Brett about a fixed blade in the size you were talking about. We talked about the details I wanted and he faxed me a drawing. This week, I picked up a knife at the post office. The blade was a little over 3" and the handle was spalted madrone burl. Came with a zipper case, leather pouch sheath, and certificate expalining all the details of the knife. Brett's fit and finish is amazing. The knife is an excellent value. I can't reccomened this maker enough to anyone that wants a great little using knife, or big using knife. He offers a great value and is a great person to work with.

Yeah hard to ever go wrong on Dozier's knives. Very tough knives! Some great recommendations guys....thanks. :) I also think Mike Irie would be in this category.., some reasonable prices and fine knives.

How about a Roselli UHC Carpenter knife. Simple and timeless as well as a great cutting tool. And with a RC hardness of 64-66 it just keeps cutting, and cutting, and cutting ...

quit teasing us about your Bennett knife.... how about a pic?
Eagerly awaiting,
Mongo

Mongo.

Unfortunately, I have no scanner or camera at this time. I really wish I could get a pic of this knife up. I'll see what I can do about getting my hands on a scanner or camera. Maybe next weekend, as my dad just got a digi-cam for Christmas and I'll have to snap a couple of pics with it.

Denning's are very nice. But take a look at Gene Ingram. Fantastic little blades that will set you back less than a C note apiece! Flat grinds, thin stock, thin edges. They simply cut as a knife is supposed to cut.
