I'm a big fan of the sub-hilt fighter. Michael Lovett made these beauties:

And here's a Loveless:

I'd love to pick one up, but I'm not prepared to spend thousand$ on one right now. Not even close. :nevreness:

Can anyone recommend a sub-hilt, with this kind of elegant simplicity, for a few hundred bucks? Custom or factory, new or old, doesn't matter.

FWIW, I've looked at the Boker Kressler (with its ring pommel) and the other Boker sub-hilts (with recurves) but I find those features really over-complicate the design. The Cold Steel "Black Bear Classic" is probably the closest, although it doesn't have a fraction of the finesse. Other ideas?

I know I'm probably asking for the impossible. Big respect to Lovett, Loveless, and all the greats.

Lol, cheap and quality sub-hilts don't go in common. Google Bill Luckett

Okay, okay, please stop laughing now. ;) I never said I was looking for "cheap" but it shouldn't be impossible to sell a quality sub-hilt inexpensively, and Bill Luckett is doing it, but they're all deep recurves AFAICT.

TK Steingass

There we go. These look really nice. Basic, elegant, uncomplicated sub-hilt for $700 new from the maker.

vanadium,

One thing about Steingass that may interest you... when you're dealing with him, you're dealing with a straight shooting no nonsense knifemaker... and his knives speak for themselves as you've already seen in his pictures and the Charlie Mike stamp of approval placed on them. If anyone in the world knows what constitutes a good fighter it's Charlie Mike Bronson.:D

If you are looking for a user knife and on a budget check out Entrek. Good quality and made in USA.

There is a Boker/Kressler collaboration out there...
sub $400
Don't have one of them and haven't handled one either.
Sure looks nice in the photos.
