Inexpensive Supplies and Materials, where do you get them?

Howdy,

What are your best tips for finding good deals on supplies and materials?

Right now, I am looking for inexpensive sources for 1095 and 5160 bar stock and canvas micarta.

Any ideas?

Google "knifemaking supplies" and start looking around. It seems that prices are generally pretty-well even among various vendors. Sometimes the closest one to you is the best bet, just to save on shipping.
 
Check masecraft for micarta. AKS often has the best deals on materials, but you have to check regularly to find what you're after.
 
If you are able to use "natural" tan colored Micarta, industrial supply places like
mscdirect.com sells it by the square foot; 3/8 inch thick for 22 dollars. That is alot more than you would get buying it in pre cut scale sets. They list it as canvas laminate
not Micarta. They also have 3 foot rods of paper, linen and canvas laminate.
