OK, can someone (any moderator will do) please give a rational explanation as to why my last thread "Ultra Lightweight Hollow Handle Knife" was moved/deleted out of General again? Was there a particular rule that was broken? It clearly stated it was NOT a sales thread, and two other of my threads, one of which was a giveaway/pre-order/sales thread, and one of which was not, were both moved to the Exchange. OK, fine. What rule prevents me from starting a thread asking for feedback about my knife in General?

Thank you.

For those wondering, the thread was about one of my knives. It clearly stated in caps "NOT A SALES THREAD." People were enjoying and interacting in the thread, and there was nothing offensive there. This is very sad.

To try and impact a man's ability to make a living (I am a fulltime maker), which is the net effect here regardless of intentions, after he has paid for the right to talk about and sell his wares on a forum, seems bizarre to me. This is all the notification I received.

That being said, I look forward to resolving this. Thank goodness I have already sold enough here to cover the cost of the membership.

I just can't figure, what is inappropriate about talking about knives on a site dedicated to talking about...KNIVES?

The first two threads were sent to the Exchange to die in obscurity. They contained sales talk. Fine, even though I have a Maker's membership. What happened to the last thread? There have been threads that bent the rules past the breaking point and were allowed to stay.

What was so "inappropriate" about my thread?

Come on guys, any moderator should be able to look at this and tell me what rules were violated and exactly why my thread was moved/deleted. I am not asking for special treatment here.

The owner doesn’t want the thread in general discussion

He doesn't want threads about feedback on knives, talking about my knives, or what? Aren't there written guidelines for this sort of thing? How do I know what I can and cannot talk about?

Also, where should it be posted? Why can't it be moved there and continue, instead of deleted?

The thread wasn’t deleted just moved offline. The site can address this when he’s back online.

So to be clear, where we stand now is that no rules were broken, but the owner wanted it offline? Is that correct?

That seems very unusual to me.

Obviously, I'm not the one that can give you an official answer; but there is a specific subforum for giveaways...and makers doing a lot of promotion in General Knife (or wherever) is sort if a slap in the face to makers that pay for their own subforum.

I don't disagree with you entirely. That being said, there was some confusion on my end about that, I thought the giveaway thread was OK and proceeded. I emailed Kevin, apologized, and offered to do whatever he wanted, and haven't heard back.

That thread was moved to the Exchange. Fair enough. The latest thread (the third one, two had already been moved) was just feedback about the knife, and had "NOT A SALES THREAD" emblazoned across the top. If that is against the rules, it is news to me. If it is punishment, then that is an interesting way to run a business, in my opinion.

I think they like knife design questions to be in the knifemakers area or a sub. I can't find the rule, and maybe it's a different forum where that's the rule, but they don't prefer that type of topic in the general knife discussion area.

If you were asking something like "what makes a great hollow handle knife" or whatever might be more appropriate as it's not soliciting a design and is more "general." Is a grey area, I think, but that is what I believe to be the case.

From the GKD description:
Your area to discuss knives in general: Folders, Fixed blades, Swords & knife related equipment, etc. Take off topic posts to the Community Center & manufacturer specific questions to their respective forums.

You may be right. I don't have a subforum, so I don't know where that leaves me. At this point, I believe it would have been easier to just tell me that instead of moving threads/taking them offline with no explanation. Would have saved a lot of time in the long run. But I appreciate your post, thank you.

For what it's worth, getting a sub requires purchasing 3 years of knifemaker membership and then contacting Spark about getting a sub-forum setup. He can be very hard to get ahold of but there is no additional cost.

Thank you for letting me know. Honestly, three more years doesn't sound very appealing right now, but we'll see what happens.🤣🤣😎

It not punishment by any means. It’s where those threads belonged initially. The whole situation was not handled correctly from the beginning. A non maker member should not be starting a group buy thread at all. Especially without permission.

Had you simply waited for an answer all this could have been avoided.

Your third similar thread was moved offline and you were provided this notification

“ Sam I’m sorry that you disagree about the threads being moved but had you waited for the owner to get back to you there would’ve been no misunderstanding.

The owner has stated that sales talk is not appropriate for general discussion.”

You then replied to the report

“ OK, sounds good.”

Did I mistake the above message from you?

We try very hard to keep this forum fair and even for everyone. This includes makers, manufacturers and members.

To say that you are being punished couldn’t be further from the truth. You offering a discount to the members is vey kind.

That notification was about the SECOND thread, not the THIRD. But what does any of that have to do with the THIRD thread asking for feedback and stating clearly it is not a sales thread? Why move that one?

I admitted to making a mistake about the pre-order thread, and owned it. What does that have to with the other threads? I just want to know what rules were broken. That doesn't seem unreasonable.

The above picture is all that I got for the removal of the THIRD thread. Did I mistake that message?

And thank you for that, much appreciated. The discount offered could potentially add up to thousands of dollars, and I was happy to do it.

Here is the message that was sent for the SECOND thread. I replied "OK, sounds good." or whatever I said (I didn't get a record of my reply), what else can I say? It doesn't sound like I have a choice.🤷‍♂️
